The, a new person entered the room. A familiar trench coat wearing man, with a small smile on his face.
"Cas," Sam stands up and greets his old friend.
"Sam," Cas greets the tall man as he was pulled into a hug. Sam patted his back softly before pulling back and sitting back down next to Gabe.
"So you two are okay now?" Gabriel asks.
Dean shrugs, moving to sit next to Cas on the couch with Ben in his hands. "Yeah, we bumped into each other at the coffee shop and sorted it all out."
Cas smiled, his eyes fixed on Dean with a look that Sam could only describe as love. Sam hid his smile, maybe Dean would finally have his shot at happiness. Then Sam looked at Gabe and realized that as depressed as he was, he was not going to throw away his shot at happiness.
"Besides, Cas is a great help when it comes to Ben," Dean says, smiling at the little boy on his knee.
Sam chuckles, never had he thought that Dean would be father material, but here he was doing great, and Sam got to be an uncle. He was finally going into law school, and he was hoping to go to a law school closer to home so he could see his family more. Now he actually had one.
Gabe slipped his hand into Sam's, and Sam holds on tight as Dean begins talking about Ben's 1st birthday.
"I've invited all our friends, and I was thinking we could just do something simple here, maybe have a few drinks once Ben goes to bed."
"That sounds nice," Sam says. "Gabe and I have a date planned tonight, but how about we four grab dinner tomorrow night and make some plans?"
"Ooo yes, but why are you two here? Go get ready for your hot date," Dean laughs, winking at the now blushing Sam.
"Shut up, Gabriel, lets go before Dean decides to revert back to his childish self."
"Shut up, I'm always a child," Dean laughs, throwing one of Ben's toys at Sam. The little boy seemed to find this very funny, and giggled and Sam drags Gabriel out of the room.
"You seem to be in a better mood," Gabe murmurs, leaning against Sam's side as they walk out to the car. Sam just smiles, looking back at Dean's now happy house.
"I guess there really is no place like home."
Gabriel groans, bumping his head against Sam's shoulder. "Just because we're in Kansas doesn't mean you need to crack stupid Oz puns."
"You love me," Sam grins.
"Just get in the car."
~~~
Sam paced nervously in the hotel room. He was finally going to do it, after all these months of them growing closer and closer, he was going to ask Gabe.
"Samoose? You ready?"
Sam took a deep breath, adjusting his suit and patting the small box in his pocket. Was he ready? No, he was so nervous that he was surprised that his heart didn't give out on him, but he also knew that tonight was the night.
A text came through from Dean.
Deanmon: Hey man, good luck with tonight, Cas and I sorted that thing for you :D
Sam grins, jittery with nerves as he finally goes out into the hall, Gabriel was waiting for him.
Samoose: Thanks Dean, I'll talk later.
"So, where are you taking me?"
Sam grabs Gabriel's hand and leads him down to the car. "It's a surprise Gabe."
"But Sammyyyyyy," Gabriel pouts.
Sam chuckles, "patience."
Sam drives them to a nice restaurant Dean had told him about. It was a short walk from where he planned to ask the question that had been floating around his mind for a while now.
Nervous, Sam leads Gabe inside and they take their seats. All throughout dinner, Gabe chats happily and Sam tries to act normal, but he was so damn nervous.
"Sammy? Are you alright?"
"Yeah, 'course I am."
"Really? Cause you have been acting weird all day."
Sam smiles, grabbing Gabriel's hand. "I'm fine, really."
Gabe purses his lips, but lets it go.
"I love you," Sam blurts out. "And I just wanna thank you for helping me these past months."
Gabriel smiled. "I love you too Samsquatch, and I'm just glad that we made it through it because I can't imagine life without you."
Sam blushes, rubbing the back of his neck nervously once more.
All too soon, Sam finds himself leaving the restaurant with Gabriel, leading him down the darkening street as Gabe chattered excitedly about the pride parade they were going to in a months time.
"It'll be awesome! I might dye my hair rainbow."
"Gabe, no."
"Gabe, yes."
Sam sighs and shakes his head.
"So, where are you taking me to now?"
"Its a surprise," Sam hums, holding Gabe's hand and leading him up a small path. The path turned to dirt under their feet, before giving way to grass. Sam smiled, jittery and excited at the same time. They emerge from trees and bushes, to a small rise under the twilight sky.
A picnic blanket lay ready, a basket with a bottle of wine poking out beside it and small lanterns scattered around. Sam paused for a moment, smiling at the amazing job his brother and Cas had done.
"Wine?" Sam asked Gabe, making his way to the bottle.
"Wow, this is amazing Sammy."
"I had some help," Sam grinned as Gabriel hurried over and accepted the glass of wine.
"So, uh, I've been thinking these past few months." Sam pauses to wipe his hand on his pants nervously. "And, I l-love you Gabriel, I mean, your the person I wanna spend the rest of my life with."
Gabriel frowns, tilting his head as he watches Sam nervously stutter.
"Uh, G-Gabriel..." Sam got down on one knee, hands shaking as he pulled the small box out. "You're my best friend, my trickster and love of my life."
Gabriel's eyes were wide now.
"I don't wanna lose you again, those four years spent without you were the worst in my life, and I know I will never love anyone other than you... so Gabriel N-Novak, will you marry me?"
