Dean grumbled as he returned to his room after spending nearly half an hour in the shower trying to remove all the glitter. Even now he was still finding bits of skin that glimmered in the light.
He heard giggling coming from Sabriel's room, another growl of annoyance escaped his lips.
Whatever, he would figure out a way to get his revenge. For now, he just wanted to cuddle Cas and enjoy some peace and quiet while Ben slept.
Cas was still awake, frowning at his phone as if it had done something to offend him.
"I swear, I'm going to kill those two tricksters one day," Dean huffed, dropping into the bed.
"Yeah?" Castiel's voice was absent.
Dean quickly caught on that something plagued his Angel's mind, and sat up. "You okay?" He places a hand on Cas' arm. "You seem kinda out of it."
The other man chewed his lip. " I'm fine."
"Liar."
"Why didn't you tell me you got accepted?"
Dean hesitated. "I don't-"
"This is amazing De, I'm so happy for you, so why hide it?"
Dean toyed with the edge of the sheet. He felt embarrassment color his cheeks red.
"Dean?"
"Because, I'm scared." Dean looked over at Ben's cot, where the sleeping boy lay with a peaceful look on his face. "I mean Ben said his first word yesterday, he's getting better at crawling and there's just... there's so many milestones that I don't wanna miss out on, y'know. If I did this, I would be at work again and then I'd miss all the milestones he has to come..."
Cas smiles, not saying a word as he pulls Dean into a hug.
"I'm scared of not being there for him, of being like my father."
Now, that sounded like something his Dean would worrying about. He had been expecting this the moment he encouraged Dean to apply to the police academy.
"You won't end up like your father, and do you know why?"
Dean shakes his head.
"Because you are a much nicer, kinder man than John ever was, and I know you'll always put Ben first..." Cas intertwined their fingers. "But you know what? You deserve to follow your dreams too and I know you want to be out there, helping people."
Dean feels his heart warm, turning his head and looking into Cas' deep blue eyes. In them he could see all the emotions that the other man was feeling. And it was overwhelming.
"I love you, Castiel Novak."
"Love you too, De."
The two smile, leaning forward and melting into a loving kiss when a small voice cries out.
"Da-da!"
Dean sighs as Castiel chuckles, shoving the tired dad towards his crying son.
Dean leans over the edge of the cot, reaching down and taking the little boy's hand.
"Hey it's okay buddy, did you have a bad dream?"
"Da-da," Ben was sobbing, his chubby cheeks red and wet from tears.
Between the sad face and cute use of his first word, Dean couldn't refuse the boy and found himself carrying Ben over to their bed. Ben soon fell back asleep, between the couple as they stared down at him in awe.
"Even now, he's so adorable, my heart can't take it," Dean murmurs, brushing his fingers over his son's curling brown hair.
"He's extraordinary."
