Tom Holland. Chief Executive Officer of Holland Enterprise. He didn't build his way from the ground to the top, neither did his father, or his grandfather, or the man before him. This was a family business in the works for over seventy years. Tom has ensured its legacy, but at what cost? This is the first question he asks himself after leaving the bed of another conquest – the ones he swore he wouldn't allow himself to form any emotional attachment to because, what was the point? Late nights, long hours, too many women in the office. This was his excuse – he hadn't bought any of them, why should they?

His father was his example. "Tom," he'd say, sitting across from his son, "there are two people in this world: people who value others, and those who value themselves. Which ones do you see coming out on top?". That's what was told to him when his father left his mother, that's what was told to him when he'd caught his father sleeping with one of the office assistants, so this is what he tells himself. Whether he believed it or not, that was a different story.

You grew up in a similar household, your father being strong-willed with one mindset. However, his way of the same philosophy didn't ring true for him. Your mother left him when you were young, taking you with her. Your father's greed had run your family bankrupt and almost homeless, your mother decided the both of you deserved better. She went back to school and built a newspaper empire from the bottom, starting as a meek editor, only to overthrow the chief and take the business from under him. You grew up as your mother, a head on your shoulders. You were never handed anything, unlike Tom, you enjoyed everything in your life because you had earned it; because you wanted it.

As you walked into Holland Enterprise, you held your head as high as you always do. You were here to interview the CEO of the company for your mother's newspaper. The spoiled, rich English boy who inherited his father's company was apparently the biggest news story in New York right now. You walked up to the receptionist desk, noting the way she looked you up and down once, surveying you, before looking up and plastering a smile on her face.

"Can I help you?" You took out your ID and business card, showing them to her.

"I'm here to see Mr. Holland. I have an interview set up with him." She nodded, looking at your ID while typing your name into the computer.

"Right, you're with The Weekly Post?" You nodded. "Alright, sign in here," she placed a clipboard with a sign-in sheet in front of you, "and you'll find Mr. Holland's office on the twenty-second floor." You finished signing your name, thanking her as you walked toward the elevator, walking in when it opened.

"Hold the door!" You hand quickly reached out, stopping the automatic doors from closing. A man in an all-black suit rushed in, running a hand through his hair as he smiled, nodding at you. "Thank you." You nodded back, pressing floor twenty-two again.

"Floor?" He looked at the number, smiling.

"You've got it already." He placed his suitcase on the ground, peeling off his jacket. You looked at him in confusion. He looked up, seeing the expression on your face before chuckling. "Uh, I'm late for a meeting. Spilled coffee. Can't walk into a meeting with a stain." You nodded in understanding, watching as he rolled the sleeves of his white button-up, up to his elbows. He cursed under his breath, a fallen curl continuously falling out of place.
