Being a teenager is a battle in itself, but add an over-protective mom and it's a nightmare. Now, add that over-protective mom being an ex-spy now-avenger? You might as well just call to make sure your reservation is set in hell because that's where it felt like you were. Natalia Romanoff is single-handedly the most intimidating woman known to man – at least, that's how everyone saw her on the outside. Within the four walls of your home, you knew the real Black Widow – soft, fun-loving, baking-loving, rom-com-loving Natasha.
You tried to assure your boyfriend, Peter, of that when you started dating. He refused to see that Natasha could be anything but deadly – which is why he put off meeting her for the first four months of your relationship. What Peter didn't predict, however, was Tony Stark trying to recruit him onto his team – something about Captain America not following the right path or something, he couldn't remember now. All he could think of during that moment was when Tony recited the other names on his team, he'd stopped listening at the mention of Natasha.
After the battle at the airport, Peter tried avoiding the mention of Natasha whenever he was with you – one of the many people who had no idea who his alter-ego was. He knew that if Natasha had seen Peter with you now, she wouldn't approve of him seeing you. He politely rejected every offer of dinner with you and your mom, every invitation to the Stark Tower (he'd accidentally let it slip that he'd already been there, being forced to lie and say that it was just an internship). After another seven weeks of dodging Natasha, he could feel his luck running thin, but he didn't expect his streak to end so abruptly.
"Peter?" He could feel every muscle in his body turn to stone at the sound of your voice. What time was it? He could have sworn he'd have a few hours at the Stark Tower while you went to your garden club, but when he glanced at the clock and saw that it was almost half past seven o'clock, he knew he'd fucked up.
"How do you know Parker?" He could have died right there hearing Natasha's voice. "Peter? How do you know my daughter?"
"Mom, I didn't want you to meet him like this but," Peter turned around fast enough to see you walking toward him, a smile on your face, making it impossible for him not to smile back and welcome you in his arms, "this is my boyfriend, Peter!"
Natasha looked between the two of you before shaking her head and smiling. "Nice to finally meet you, Peter!" She stuck her hand out towards Peter, confusing him but prompting him to shake her hand in response.
"You too, Ms. Romanoff."
"Please, call me Natasha."

"Goodnight Tony, night Stevie!" You waved enthusiastically, seeing how dinner with Peter and your mom went really well.
"Oh! Hon, I forgot something in the weight room. I'll meet you downstairs."
"Okay mom." You smiled before leaning in to kiss Peter quickly, causing him to blush as he took in the two older men smirking at him from across the room.
"Goodnight Peter. Love you." You smiled largely as he leaned down to kiss you again.
"Goodnight, I love you too. Call or text when you're home, so I know you're okay."
"Aw!" "Shut up uncle Tony." You rolled your eyes before smiling and nodded back at Peter, getting into the awaiting elevator and waving one more time.
"Nice job, Parker."
"You got a good one, Peter." Peter only nodded at Steve and Tony as they walked back to the kitchen, lost in their own conversation. Peter went to go pick up his backpack from the living room when Natasha stopped him.
"Parker." He looked up at her, seeing her leaning against the doorframe. "Oh, hey Nat. Did you find what you forgot?" She shook her head, a scowl on her face.
"Peter, I don't want you dating my daughter."
"Wait, what?" His shoulders slumped as a prominent frown made its way onto his face. "I thought you were okay with it?"
"Okay with my daughter dating an avenger? Does she know who you are?" He looked down at his shoes, already answering her question with his silence. "I didn't think so. And she doesn't have to know – she also doesn't need to be involved in it." He sighed, not being able to argue with her. He knew you dating him was dangerous – or at least, it could be.
"I'll let her down easy."
"You're not going to fight me on this?" Natasha sounded genuinely surprised, expecting Peter to chew her out. He seemed completely infatuated with her daughter, she thought he'd go down fighting.
"I know she deserves better. I don't want her to get hurt, and if this is what you think is right, then I believe you. It can't be easy being an avenger and worrying about your kid be used as a ploy to get to you." She nodded slowly, glad that Peter understood her, but sad that he couldn't actually be with you. She knew he loved you and you loved him, but the last thing she wanted was losing you because someone had it in for Peter.
"Thank you, Peter. I wish it were different."
"Me too."

He waited on his bed patiently for you to call him and tell him that you got home okay. He chose to break up with you on the phone – not being able to face you again, knowing he wouldn't be able to do it. He jumped up from his bed at the sound of his phone ringing, knowing that this was going to be one of the hardest thing he'd ever had to do. He took a deep breath and answered the call. "Hello?"
"Hey babe! I'm home, safe and sound!" "Cool." His palms started to sweat, he hadn't really had time to figure out how to do this exactly. "What are you up to?" "Not much. Homework, uh, yeah that's about it." "You okay, Parker? Mom didn't scare you too bad, did she?"
It was now or never.
"No. Natasha was fine, but, um, I do need to talk to you." The line was silent for a short few seconds before you hummed. "What about?" Deep breaths, Peter.
"I can't do this anymore."
"W-what do you mean?"
"I can't be with you. Not right now, anyway. I just – I have more important stuff I need to focus on." Another silence followed.
"I'm not important?"
"What? No! God, no that-that's not what I meant-"
"No, I get it. It's fine. You don't have time to waste on me."
"God, please no (Y/N), I didn't mean that. I love-!"
"Peter, don't fucking say that to me. It's fine. We're fine. Good luck with whatever you do." He wanted to take it back. He wanted to scream 'Fuck Natasha's opinions', but it was too late.
The line went dead.
