"What do you mean you haven't asked her out?" I rolled my eyes, pouring more cereal into my bowl and shoveling a spoonful in my mouth so I couldn't answer Jacob, shrugging my shoulders. "Dude, you can't get mad that other guys ask her out, when they're just doing what you're too afraid to do." I began walking to my room in silence. "Ya'know, I heard Haz talking about how pretty she was. Maybe he'll ask her out." I stopped in my tracks, turning to face Jacob.
"You're just trying to piss me off." Jacob shrugged. "Haz wouldn't do that – he's my best friend. You both are." At the time, Harrison walked out, grabbing his keys. "Where are you going?" He looked up, sliding his arms through his jacket.
"Meeting someone for lunch," I narrowed my eyes at him. "What?"
"With who?" He shrugged.
"A girl from my Econ class. Why does it matter?" I studied him for a second, walking backwards into my room.
"No reason, have fun." I closed my door, setting my now-soggy cereal on my dresser and heading to get my phone from my bed. I opened the text conversation from (Y/N). I texted her asking what she was doing and waited for a reply. She wouldn't go out with Harrison, right? More importantly, Harrison wouldn't do that to me... would he? I felt my phone vibrate in my hand, quickly looking at it.
cutest nerd🤓: not much. want to come whisk me away?

me: make it 5. i'm eager
I grabbed a pair of jeans from the ground and stripped myself of my sweats, also trading my stained grey shirt for a clean blue one instead – remembering how she said she liked the color blue on me.
"Where you off to?"
"I'm going to see (Y/N)." I earned a nod of approval from Jacob, one of his fist extending toward me.
"Go get your girl, man." I fist-bumped him, grabbing my keys and heading out the door. I nearly ran across campus to get to the girls' dormitory. I was almost in the building when I heard my name being called.
"Hey, Holland!" I turned around, keeping the door open. I saw a girl I'd seen before. Jessica? No. Jennifer! "Remember me?" Jasmine? "Karen, from like three weeks ago?" K's close enough to J, right?
"Uh, yeah. From the Sigma party, right?" She nodded, giving me a tight-lipped smile.
"Do you remember that you were supposed to call me?" I looked up at the building, thinking that the girl I actually wanted to be with was upstairs on the third floor.
"Um, listen – I had a lot to drink that night, I barely remember anything. Hell, to be quite honest, I thought your name was Jessica–" I turned my head to look at her, only to feel her hand meet my cheek and then a burning sensation spread around my left cheek. My free hand came up to clench my cheek. "Fuck!"
"That's for being an asshole." She didn't say anything else, only walked the opposite way. I groaned, feeling the heat on one side of my face. I opened the door and took the stairs to the third floor. I reached the room and knocked on the door. (Y/N) opened the door, a smile on her face until she saw my face.
"What the hell happened to your face?! You're – red!" I nodded, letting her pull me in.
"Yeah, Karen's not a fan of me."
"Karen from the Sigma frat party?" I nodded, my eyebrows pulling in. "What?"
"How'd you know?" She laughed, getting some ice and wrapping it in a towel, walking back up to me and leading me to sit on her couch. She held the towel to my face, icing the red mark. I winced from the hot and cold contrast but didn't move away from her.
"I'm the one that drove you back home that night. Do you not remember?" I shook my head, she sighed.
"What's wrong? What did I do?" She shook her head this time. "No, don't do that," I reached my hand out for hers, "what happened?" She shrugged.
"I don't know – it was weird. You were drunk already when I got there and you came up to me, offered me a drink. I said sure. You ended up spilling most of it on me, then you took me to the restroom to clean me up. And, in the bathroom, something shifted. You tried to kiss me but, since you were drunk, I pushed you off. You got embarrassed and left me in there. I tried to find you and gave up after an hour," she shrugged, looking away from me. "Then, I saw you and Karen going upstairs. You came down like twenty minutes later, shirt off and pants undone. You asked me for a ride home."
"I'm such a dick," she laughed, causing me to shake my head. "No, I am. I'm so sorry."
"It's okay–"
"No, it isn't. I got pissed at you for not wanting to kiss me–"
"Woah, I never said I didn't want to."
"What?"
"I said that I didn't kiss you because you were drunk – if you weren't that'd be a different story." We kept our gaze on each other for a few seconds. She broke it first, removing the towel and bringing her hand back to caress my cheek. "How is it?"
"I don't even feel it," I kept my gaze on her, trying to read into what she said. "If I wanted to kiss you right now, would that be okay?" She smiled at her lap, not looking at me yet.
"Depends – how much have you had to drink today?" I laughed, shaking my head.
"Only, like, four beers. A shot or two." She laughed along with me, finally looking up at me. "I've liked you for so long."
"I know," she shrugged.
"You know?" She nodded. "How?"
"Drunk words are true thoughts – you may have told me that night, in the car ride." Her finger came up to poke my cheek. "Your face is red again. Different reason?" I could hear the teasing tone in her voice. I brought my hand up to cup her jaw, bringing her closer to me.
"Different reason." I confirmed, pushing my lips onto hers, feeling heat overcome me again, but for a different reason, too.
"I like you, too." She whispered against my lips. "I don't have to worry about Karen, do I?" I scoffed, pecking her before leaning against her couch. I tugged on her hand, leading her to sit in my lap.
"You don't have to worry about anyone. They all had to worry about you." She smiled, resting her forehead against my chest to hide her face. "You're a little red too, aren't you?" My hand came up to run through her hair, I smiled widely when she shoved me lightly, muttering a small 'shut up'.
