Beep beep beep. I groan as I turn off my alarm clock. It’s been two weeks since I’ve moved and I’m still not on a normal sleep schedule. This time next week I’ll be in college I think to myself. At least it’s Friday and I don’t have to work. I got a job as a waitress at a restaurant a few streets away, and I only have to work Monday through Thursday.
After I’m dressed I drive over to the Curtis home. Steve invited us to go up to his camp for the weekend. In other words, they want to get drunk and party. I’m all for that, I might as well get one last wild experience in before going back to school. I pull up about 8:25, early as usual and see everybody is already out there waiting for me.
"So now you’re all early!" I joke while getting out of my car. "Who’s riding with who?"
Dally walked over to me, "I call shotgun."
"Great, this should be a fun 2 hours." I say sarcastically.
"Johnny and Ponyboy can ride with me." Darry announced. "Everybody can put their stuff in my pickup."
"Do we have to get stuck with Two Bit?" Sodapop whined. "He’s gonna eat all of the food!"
"Not on my watch." Steve joked.
"Okay, I don’t care who eats what, but the first one to get on my nerves can walk the rest of the way." I tell them.
"Someone’s not a morning person." Two Bit mumbled.
"Damn right I ain’t." I laugh.
"I can’t believe it, we turned Jess into a greaser!" Two Bit jumped for joy.
"I’m not a greaser." I defended, "I’m just friends with them!"
The car ride was surprisingly quiet. Soda and Steve fell asleep, and Two Bit shoved his face with food the whole ride. Dally looked distracted, probably having trouble with his girlfriend or something..
"You okay Dal? You seem tense." I ask him.
"I’m fine."
"You sure? How’s Rhonda? Bitchy as usual?"
"Yeah, she’s found a new way to annoy me." He mutters.
"Oh yeah? What’s that?"
"She’s taking singing lessons. Her sister’s boyfriend’s mother is a teacher, and now every time we go out she has to sing."
" I could see how that would get annoying." I sympathize
"No, see you don’t understand. The broad can’t sing. Her old man called the police thinking it was a dying animal."
"You’re kidding!"
"I wish."
"Why did she even start taking lessons?" I ask.
"I don’t know. I told her how I like girls that can perform, and now she’s trying to be the next Doris Day or something." Dally complained.
"Since when did you like girls that perform." I wondered while taking a sip of my coke.
"How long have you been in Tulsa?"
I immediately start choking on my coke and nearly wreck into the car in front of me.
"Shut up Dal! Do you want to make me wreck? Don’t joke like that." I argue.
"I wasn’t joking."
"Sure you weren’t."
"Hey, I think I know when I’m being serious. Now take a compliment when you get one." He said with a smile on his face.
"Yeah Jess, take the compliment." Two Bit says with a handful of chips in his mouth. "He’s never said anything like that about me" He frowns.
"That’s because you act like this." Dally hits Two Bit on the head.
"Fine, thank you Dallas." I smile sarcastically. He obviously is just playing me. He probably wants to hook up tonight and I’m the only girl around. Besides, he’s never even heard me sing, and if he was really interested in me he would’ve made a move by now.
Author's Note: I know that's short, but had a long chapter last time, and I barely got any feedback. So the more comments/votes I get, the more I will want to write.
