[ C A R A 'S P O V ]
Reggie and Nancy were happily chatting away about something that had occurred during the day. It was lunch and we were having food but I wasn't hungry so I was just having a milkshake instead.
Previous events of the day:
"I'm craving burger." The raspy voice startles me. I turn to my side to see Aiden fully awake. "Good morning, snore much." I say and direct my attention back to the sky. I had finally finished all the necessary assignment for the day.
"Let's go get burger." Aiden said as he turned his head to me while stretching, his biceps and muscles flexing underneath his shirt. I squint at him, "You just woke up and that's the first thing you thought of?" I ask and he shrugs like it's usual.
"How much more time do we have left?" He asks while packing up his stuff. I glance at my phone and sigh, "We still have 20-25 minutes max." I say and he nods and shoots up. He dusts his pants and then looks down at me, "Are you going to come or do I have to give you a special invitation, Princess?" He says gritting out princess.
Speak about mood swings.
I don't question him and follow him to the nearest burger spot. We stand in the queue which isn't really all that long. "What do you want?" He asked and I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion. What did I do wrong now?
"I meant from the menu." He says, instantly reading me. I sheepishly stare at the menu and order chicken burger. I ordered the simplest thing on the menu as I had no idea about this place. "You want anything to drink?" He asked and I shook my head. "Anything else you want with the burger?" He asks and my eyebrow involuntarily raises.
"You sound a lot like the person behind the counter. Have you worked in a burger joint before?" I ask and when I get a just-tell-me-your-order-so-this-can-be-done-with look. "Fries." I say in a squeak after his glare intensifies. Aiden was a super intimidating person whether I liked to admit or not. "I'd like fries." I say after mustering up some more courage. He nods and tilts his head to a table, "You go take a seat. I'll be there." He says and when I take my purse out, he shakes his head and softly pushes my purse down.
Who knew the boy was a gentlemen?
"No-" I started and his angry self was back. It snapped me out and I slowly went to the table. I shouldn't let him walk all over me. Who the fuck does he think he is? After a while of foot tapping, Aiden comes with our food and we eat in silence. I watch Aiden's relaxed features as he eats his burger. Burgers relax him, noted. He then catches me staring at him and gives a lopsided smirk. I instantly look away and finish my burger.
"I have worked behind a counter before." He says softly and I look at him with confusion. "You look so cute when you look so lost." He says chuckling and I feel my face heat up and the pink in my cheeks appear. When did I start blushing at compliments like that? "I used to work at a restaurant and I used to be a waiter. It was a small place and it wasn't in this neighbourhood so you wouldn't know." He said and I nod along.
"Have you ever worked anywhere?" He asks and I think back, "I did work at this pet store when I was like 13 or 14. The guy was really generous in letting me work there." I say and Aiden nods. I had worked in more than just the pet store. I went for side jobs when I was in my teens in the hopes that I would have enough money to help keep our falling family but I didn't say anything of that to him.
