I hold my breath till the window is rolled down. Nancy is having a laughing fit from my reaction. I start coughing real bad and then stick my head out like a dog, inhaling and exhaling the pure air. "Imagine the amount of people who could've died from your explosions." Nancy says and I crack up. Reggie had just farted and this was a regular thing for him to do when we were around. He seriously could've killed anyone with his explosions. "You guys are such great best friends." He says and I laugh. "Guess who wants to go back to his house?" Nancy says diverting the topic. I know the answer and from the way Reggie is shamelessly grinning, it was an easy give away.
Reggie and Nancy had stayed over the day before and we ended up having a great time with Papa, Wendy and Will. Reg and Nanc had their clothes stashed in my house so they didn't have to freak. Reggie decided he needed to make a quick stop at his house for some reason but Nancy and I stayed behind. "You're going to get us all late, Reggie!" I grumble and he just smirks to this comment.
Sure, Reggie got off detentions because he was a charmer. All the teachers genuinely liked his charms and he did get pretty good scores in the end of the day. It wasn't the same for Nancy and I. We had to work our ass off for the teachers to notice our potential and for them to like us. Nancy was a natural charmer as well, you can guess how Reggie and Nancy click. I wasn't a teachers pet but some teachers definitely cut me a slack but that didn't mean I wouldn't get busted.
Reggie parks the car on the driveway holding up two fingers, "just two minutes" He says before bolting away. Nancy groans at this and gets out of the car, I follow suit. It felt nice to step out and bask in the fresh air. "Hey Cara. Hey Nancy." Dustin says while stepping out in his pj's. He looked like the cutie I always remembered him to be. A grin makes its way as I go towards him. Nancy receives a call from her mom and quickly excuses herself. "What's up, Dusty?" I say and he grins. I always loved his smile.
"I heard Uncle Leviane is home and he called all of us for ice cream and he promised to take us to the arcade so I'm super excited." He says while bubbling with joy. I grin at this, Papa obviously planned this. The boys loved nothing more than arcades and junk food. "Why don't you stop by home anymore? Everything okay? I see a lot of Nancy but not you." He says with genuine concern and I can't help the smile etched on my face. I kiss his cheek and nod with my heart feeling so light with the concern. The boys always treated me like their sister and it felt so good. "I'm alright, Dustin." I say and see Reggie rush out the door with Aiden in tow.
My eyes scrunch up in confusion. Nancy returns to my side and her face mirrors my expression. "What's he doing here in your house?" I ask and Dustin shrugs, "He's a relative of ours. A really close relative apparently." He says shrugging. I hesitate and look up at Aiden who seems to be watching my conversation with Dustin intently. "Are you coming, fruit loops?" Aiden says with his usual scowl on his face. I scrunch my face at his mocking, I wasn't dressed like fruit loops. I may have had more colour on but that didn't make me fruit loops.
Dustin sighs heavily and shakes his head, "I think you look beautiful, Cara. Ignore him." My smile finds its way back and I kiss Dustin's cheek in return before waving him goodbye. His grin returns and he waves back. "Have fun, Dusty. Stay safe!" I yell over from the rolled window. Dustin playfully rolls his eyes. "You are so friendly with all those annoying brats and I don't know how you do it." Reggie says while looking at me through the rear view mirror. Reggie was joking about them being annoying brats, I mean sure everyone has their moments. "I swear. Mike has told me he wished you were his sister so many times and I sure as hell will end up selling him. I swear. " Nancy says and this makes me laugh. I ignore the stare of the usually scowling Aiden but surprisingly this time, his face was emotionless and blank when he stared at me. It was weird for him to not be scowling at me.
