I walked with a heavy step down the hall hoping I wouldn't run into Jerry. Turning I walked down to stand in front of the throne room doors. Where were the guards? I reached my hand out to turn the door knob and shadows wavered around it. Rahn.
"Here kitty," I called. Shadows created by the door came together as the great beast cat appeared. He was actually about the size of a lion when he was in his regular form. His true form was much scarier since I was one of two people to ever see it.
"Don't call me kitty." he grumbled. "This area is off limits for you right now."
"Okay then tell me Rahn how do you see creatures?" I ask curious.
"Disgusting and filthy not to mention they do not even covet the Realm as they should." he sat back on his hind quarters lightly flicking his tail.
While I was about to ask what the Realm was I figured it was where Rahn came from and didn't bother. "No I meant to say what do I look like to you?"
"What a bizarre question girl. Well I guess I will answer by saying that I see you the same as you look only you walk on neither light nor dark."
"What does that mean?"
"I see mostly two different things under a creatures feet. A light or darkness I will not explain what that means for you would not understand. You are strange though as I do not see anything." Rahn said lying down on the floor.
"I was seeing strange things that day." Rahn's ears perked up as I rambled on. "I saw figures in black surrounded by black only they were traced in purple. There was a person in red and Victor was an angel with real big wings. I was in there for a long time. Jerry said some kind of word when I was freaking out at the baseball game." I looked at Rahn who had got up and wrapped around my legs.
"Do you know what word he told you?"
"No but he told me earlier that I shouldn't have been able to break it since it was some kind of ancient dragon magic." I told Rahn more than I had ever told Amanda or Victor but I never wondered why. I just saw the familiar and told him what I had problems with. I miss him now.
"Then you are a creature who is older than the dragons. I knew that you would be like him but I wonder about your friend. Does she know that you are an enchantress?" Rahn purred.
"So I am an enchantress?"
"Hmm that is an excellent question and one I cannot answer. For you see the contract you had with Victor changed to a mutual exchange that this lands lovers usually have." Rahn reached his head up to touch my hand and I petted the feline. He was warm. His dark gray fur was soft and smooth comforting after such a long day.
"Like marriage vows then." I said it so calmly it surprised me. "Does that make you my kid?" I giggled.
"No it makes you my partner's life mate. This is the tradition handed down through the generations that everyone has forgotten the origin. There are legends in the Realm that tell of the first two to ever exchange vows. It was a princess who belonged to the stars and a man who found her stranded on his world. She could not go back but people tried to harm her for being so pure. The man made a promise to protect her and she promised he would never be lonely." He purred as I rubbed his chin then behind his ears.
"Oh so did it work out between them?"
"No they faced dangers like the birth of the fae or the shadow realm also known as the Realm nowadays not that we are the same as back then. The princess is the one who created dragons by the way but they will deny that fact and say that they were born from deep within Earth." Rahn pushes against my legs causing me to lose my balance and fall on top of him. He growls as I laughed and rolled to lean my back against the doors.
