The Cottage Under the Lake

The door opened without much help from my hand and inside is just what you would expect from a cottage in the country side. An open kitchen leading out to a room veiwing the lake from above using magic in the glass wall. I wandered up the stairs leading me to four different doors each displaying a synbol. The first one was a cat that lounged among books. The second was a depiction of a sunny day against dark blue mountains capped with snow. At the end of the hall were the other two. One was a skull and the other was a delicate looking flower covered in thorns.

I was itching to go inside the rooms and discover what was in them but the ominous presense they emitted kept me from going through with the act. I opened the door to the room I believed to be mine and went inside. The bed had a canopy something I had always wanted. The desk was made of a pale colored wood topped with tons of paper and writing tools, nothing I thought I would use. Just a hint I use it all when I write all these stories I tell you. This is just the begining.

I was called downstairs to the the room at the other side of the stairs which I would practically be living in the days to come. Inside were three giant crystals sculpted flat to have a flat viewing surface. Jerry had enchanted them to allow the veiwer to see things in the world outside. Of course they had to have a crystal where the viewer wished to see. In all admiration it was much like the secruity cameras back on Earth. Two seats sat on either side of the large flat crystals and the room was lit by only a few candle casting an eery glow to fill the room.

I walked outside shutting the door behind me. Jerry went ahead into the kitchen to make some tea while I wandered back upstairs to look inside the four rooms. Since I had already gone inside mine I started with the door with a cat symbol on the front. Inside was a mess of pillows and shelves piled high with books. The colors of the room ranged from a midnight blue to a dark purple. I smiled knowing this was Rahn's room slowing closing the door behind me.

The door with mountains was Jerry's room. Inside hung hundreds of pieces of colored glass filling the room with dancing light. It was a awesome feeling to behold the wonders of such a simplistic art. What do rooms have to do with this story? I also ask myself this question but it is only the room across from mine that I need describe.

The skull door belonged to none other than Death. I was expected a simple black room when I walked in but instead was a wasteland with nothing but skulls and a foul oder lingering in the air. I covered my nose and mouth trying to prevent the smell from entering my lungs. The urge to run was so strong and intense I can't recall the reason I stood there. Maybe it was the pile of bones that looked exactly like Death when he had become his ancient form. The long horns and narrowed skull faced me with empty eyes filling my soul with that same feeling. I felt hollow like a pumpkin at Halloween.

A voice sounded from downstairs distracting me for a moment as my head turned to the open door. Before I could turn to leave, an arm drug me back deeper into the room while a bone arm shut the door. The room went dark and a single candle was lit. My lips felt the bone hand leave taking great care not to take a great breath as they did so. "Did I scare you?" cackled a voice. It was the one that sounded like the rattling of bones, the great Zyis.

"Indeed you did." I responded feeling my heart pound harder. It is difficult to forget when you have a brush with death, even more so the person who could have killed you.

"While it is preferable for you to talk in the light it is easier for me to talk to you in this darkness. Though for your sake I have given you a candle." The bones rattled across from me yet beyond the light of the candle.

"What is it you wished to speak to me about?" I said sitting down very carefully on the floor.

"Your true identity. Rahn is missing half of himself and Jerry doesn't yet have access to his past life. Well I guess he has partial access since he can reject the vampire blood inside of him and become a full fledged dragon."
