"So be it." Rahn said. He lunged claws out and hit toppling them both over till they hit the tree causing Rahn to be winded. Victor seized the opportunity to jump on the cat and grab its head. The cat jumped and landed on the vampire releasing the death grip. Brandishing the knife Victor leaped again over the cat rolling to stand behind Rahn. The knife went down in a flash of white but Rahn managed to dodge with barely a hair between them.
The knife moved fast but it was after the same thing every time making it predictable. As Rahn dodged I saw him prepare for a counter attack then he abandoned it as the pattern changed. Victor was expecting his attack to be based around his. Rahn ducked one he should have dodged though and got a cut across the shoulder.
The next moments seemed to happen in slow motion. Rahn propelled himself forward on crouched legs flying to Victor who was still in a swing. His jaws clamped down on Victors leg and with a jerk the vampire was flown three feet from the cat who stood there waiting to see if his prey would stand. Victor looked at his new wound then was gone, with godlike speed I found him once again behind Rahn. The cat turned and held back his attacker with his paws on Victors shoulders forcing him to stand upright.
In the battle to stand Victor dropped his weapon. I knew who would win this battle but how long he would make the torment last I didn't know. "Do something!" Quicksilver hissed from my hand stirring me from my trancelike state.
"What do I do?" I asked quietly. "I don't want to kill anyone."
Meanwhile the fight continued as Victor did a jump backwards taking a few scrapes to his chest. He ran at Rahn who disappeared into shadows then reformed behind Victor and sank a tooth into his wrist. I saw the white streak the dark and shouted, "Enough!"
Both stopped and stared at me as my mind forcefully charged into theirs stopping their actions. I touched a familiar presence and then a completely monstrous one. Emotions so extreme flooded me and in them I saw memories that were not mine.
The one that stayed long enough for me to see ended with a hand inside a body tearing out the still beating heart. I wanted to puke but without the control they would go back to fighting. There was a struggle from the monster so I coiled around his mind trying to keep him contained. He fought with everything he had and I was almost done with the control when I realized that if I went any further he would break. The last time I had done this was on a test and I went a little overboard due to my nervousness. Breaking meant the end for the mind and it would become like a broken toy just sitting around unable to act of its own will.
I pulled back a little and then my concentration broke with a howl of pain. In memories or reality I still believed it and in my doubt the minds escaped and I was left wide open. Victor looked over at me with pitch black eyes and charged me as I was the more threatening creature now. The Victor I cared for was no longer in control it was now a monster I couldn't bring myself to kill.
A yell sounded from somewhere beside me but rang hollow in my ears. I only saw the dagger and fangs as they came at me. Suddenly a bare chested man came between me and death absorbing the blow that would have hit me. I could have healed from it but I would still feel the pain. This man was now going to die from my foolish act.
"That's enough of this childish play." he grumbled. He turned his head slightly and I saw purple eyes light up like lightning. The man stood up and blocked the vampire that went for the finishing move like he was a fly. The vampire leaped again but the man caught the vampire as the man stepped to the side. I watched wide eyed as the man brought the creature to its knees and dislocated both arms with a pop. Next he used the belt of the vampire to tie its feet to the waist.
During the whole process his chest spurted blood. Finally at the end he tossed the knife away and the man turned to me with a look of despair. "I have to. It is his only release." he said. I found myself crying as the dark clouds that had crept into the morning began to rumble. I felt the drizzle as Rahn the man began to walk over to the moaning and screaming vampire.
I threw myself at him but only hung limply at his side. "Don't kill him. I thought you were his friend." I said desperately searching for a way to save the two creatures I had come to care for.
"I cannot have friends of this land. The only reason I was kind to you was to make sure you didn't become an enemy." Rahn said shrugging me off.
I sat knees sprawled on the ground. "Lies!" I yelled at him. "You're afraid to admit your feelings because of the past. Wounds can heal if you let them but just reopening it by killing those who get close is not going to help." At this point I was stalling for time. Time to find a plan.
"We can talk more after I kill him."
