Chapter 17
Austin's POV
"Austin, no." Ella whispers pulling away from me.
"Did I do something wrong?" I ask confused.
"It's not that, it's just something between us just can't happen." She tells me picking at her nails, showing that she is nervous.
"Why not Ella? I like you, and I want to be able to make you smile more then you usually do." I say with sincerity, lifting her chin up so we can have eye contact.
"No, we can't be a couple. That would complicate everything; and you make me laugh just by being my friend." She says pulling her head away from me.
"How would it complicate things?" I ask wanting a bit of an explanation.
"Because your brother likes me too. That's why he asked me on a date, that's why I wore the purple dress I was supposed to wear out to the fanciest restaurant. We can't be together because how do I know you won't get in fights, or sleep with other girls, or go to parties and get high or drunk?" She says looking directly at me making me feel like a bag of garbage.
"Ella, I did all of that because I couldn't have you." I tell her.
"Can't, you can't have me. I'm sorry Austin." She says. "We can only be friends. We can still cross stuff off the list if you want."
"I created this list so we could have more time together Ella." I'm trying to persuade her still.
"And we can still do the list but only as friends."
"Fine, then I have one we are going to do, in exactly a week, for at least a week." I tell her.
"I don't see where this is going." She says moving sand around with her feet out of awkwardness.
"We are going to go on a road trip. And on this road trip we are going to do a bunch of things on our list." I say making eye contact again.
"So you're just going to force me to pack up my bags and go with you to who-knows-where?" She asks.
"I'm not going to make you; but it's on the list and I think it would be a good time to restart this broken friendship." I reply trying to convince her to agree to go with me.
"I'll have to think about it Austin. So much has gone on in the last 48 hours, it's all too overwhelming." She tells me.
"I won't make you decide right this second, but by next week so I know if I need to pack my stuff or not." I say.
"Ok, Austin. Now I didn't come to the carnival to sit here and talk to you. I didn't even know you were going to end up coming with me. I came here to enjoy the rides and the stupid little games they have out for people to waste their money on, so if you don't mind I'm going to go enjoy it, because they are only in town for another 5 days." She tells me and walks away.
"Well I'm going to accompany you." I walk beside her.
"Fine, but please no funny business. Now let’s go on the teacups." She turns around and walks the other way to the teacups.
We wait in line and when it's our turn to go in, Ella and I hand the lady our ticket. We go to the back and sit in a purple coloured teacup. Typical Ella, going for the purple one first. Once the ride starts Ella is back to herself, raising her hands and screaming like a child.
Once the ride finishes we get off and drags me to the marry-go-round. The man at the entrance way gives us a funny look when we hand him our tickets. Ella walks all the way around to the other side and gets on a purple unicorn. I then sit beside her on a green and blue horse. The ride starts and it is one of the most boring things in the world. You are just there sitting on an animal, going around in a circle, while your animal moves up and down. The ride comes to a stop after about 5 minutes and we walk out.
"How do you find that fun?" I ask Ella, as she drags me somewhere else.
"I don't know, I have always enjoyed the stupid carnival rides." She replies walking over to one of those silly carnival games that no ever wins.
It's the game where you have to throw the balls into little container type things and total up the amount of points you got, and if you get enough you get a prize. Ella, being a baseball player and all, is fairly good at this game. In the end she ends up getting 11 points, enough to get her a new dog stuffed toy, not that she needs any new ones.
"Do you want to go on the Ferris wheel with me?" Ella asks walking away from the ball toss game.
"Sure, but aren't you afraid of heights?" I ask in concern.
"Yes but I'm trying to get over that fear by attacking it with the fear itself." She explains.
"Ok guess we can go on then." I give in hopping she won't get scared like she did when she was younger.
"Yay!" She squeals. "Let's go."
She drags me over and the wait in line is not long at all. Soon we are giving the man our tickets and a lady is seating us and putting the bar over us.
"Are you sure about this Ella?" I ask one more time before the ride starts.
"Yes, Austin, I'm sure." She says as we start rising to the top.
We go around a few times and Ella seems fine. We make one last go around and then they start loading people off, leaving me and Ella stuck at the top. The Ferris wheel then stops working.
"Austin why isn't it moving?" Ella asks a hint of panic in her voice.
"I think its stuck Ella." I reply honestly.
"This is not ok. I cannot be stuck at the top! Austin we are going to die." She starts rambling, a sign that she is nervous.
"Ella, it's all going to be ok." I say trying to calm her down, as she goes into my arms, so she doesn't have to see the ground below.
(A/N: Oh no, Ella and Austin are stuck onto of a Ferris wheel together! Well at least she is safe in his arms. And at least he is there to hold her. Looks like the kids kinda found a solution to their issues with each other, I mean Austin and Ella are kind of friends again. Anyways, hope you all enjoy this story. Make sure to cote, comment, follow me if you’re not already, and tell all your friends the same! Love you all guys, you mean so much to me.
