Hermione stood frozen at the doors of the Great Hall as everyone stared back at her. Rumours about the girl who had landed in the hall had passed throughout every common room and here she was, standing in front of them. Looking over at the Gryffindor table, Hermione caught Remus' eye as he waved his hand, motioning for her to come and sit down next to him.
Walking over to Remus, all eyes followed her before she sat down next to him and low murmurings could be heard over the hall. Scanning the boys sat next to Remus, Hermione's eyes latched onto a raven-haired boy as he brushed his fingers through his hair, messing it up in the process. She had to stifle a gasp as Remus introduced him as James. James Potter. She sent him a warm but timid smile before turning to the boy next to him. His black locks surrounded his face and his grey eyes stood out to Hermione as they locked onto her brown orbs, unable to detach themselves. Remus introduced him as Sirius Black and Hermione had to agree with the older version of Sirius. He really was a looker. She found herself melting, just by looking into his eyes which she was unable to move away from. Pulling away her eyes reluctantly away from his, her eyes set on the boy with mousy brown hair and blue eyes whom Remus introduced as Peter Pettigrew. Hate and anger filled Hermione's eyes as she looked at the boy who was slowly cowering away from her glare.
"Hi.... Umm.... I'm Hermione. Hermione Dumbledore." She told them all, to which all of their eyes widened except Remus' who she had already previously met.
"Dumbledore? You're related to Dumbledore?" asked Sirius as their eyes met again.
"I'm his niece." She informed him, to which his eyes widened once again. It was something Hermione would have to get used to.A red headed girl strode over to the group and sat down on the other side of Hermione, unfazed by the look of admiration that James was giving her.
"Go out with me Evans." He begged.
"No Potter. I'm not here to talk to you anyway, I'm here to talk to you." She stated as she looked to Hermione. "I'm Lily Evans. Dumbledore said you were in my dorm." Lily gave her a small but reassuring smile that reminded her of Ginny.
Hermione was unable to swallow as she stared at the young girl in front of her. The girl who grew up to be a lovely woman who was sorely missed. The woman who gave up her life to save her son's life. Swallowing, Hermione gave Lily a warm smile.
"I'm Hermione. Hermione Dumbledore." She choked out, in awe of the girl in front of her.
"Come and sit with me and my friends and I'll take you to lessons. I'll introduce you to the other girls in our dorm later. Be prepared, their loud but they'll love you to bits. I can tell." Standing up, she looked over to James who had opened his mouth as if to say something. "NO! I'll go out with you when hell freezes over potter."
"Best get your ice skating boots then." He replied, a smirk on his face that made Lily blush as she hurriedly walked away back to her group of friends with Hermione trailing after her.

Throughout breakfast, Sirius and Hermione kept glancing at each other which was fortunately not noticed by their group of friends. As Hermione turned to look at Sirius at the other end of the table, she found that he was already looking at her, his head was rested on his hand and his eyes locked onto hers. She blushed bright red and Sirius sent her a smirk as she turned away to look back at her food.
-------------------------------------
The day had passed by in a whirl and Hermione wanted nothing more than to climb under the covers of her bed and to sleep. Lily had practically dragged her from their last class of Divination to their common room. Hermione was more than annoyed when she had found out that she had to be in the lesson as she had purposefully walked out in third year in hope of having nothing to do with the waste of a subject but Dumbledore had recommended that she ought to take it.
As Lily dragged her through the corridors, James and Sirius followed behind the both of them. Every so often, James would open his mouth as if to say something before Lily silenced him with a sharp "No potter."
When reaching the common room, Lily had dragged Hermione to the safety of the dorm, away from the two pestering boys. Lily introduced her to the rest of the girls who she was sharing a dorm with and Hermione had to stifle a gasp as she looked into the eyes of a young girl that greatly resembled Neville before Lily introduced her as Alice. Lily introduced Hermione to Marlene, a short girl with light hair, whom Hermione remembered from the original Order of the Phoenix and a young girl named Mary with wavy brown hair who also seemed very familiar.
Seeing all these girls who were soon to die, Hermione felt so lucky that she had at least met them. She couldn't help but think of how jealous Neville and Harry would be to know their mums but she reasoned that this time, she would save them. Both boys would know their parents.
---------------------------------------
Unable to sleep, Hermione crept out of her dorm, careful not to wake anyone. Tiptoeing down the stairs, she noticed the group of boys sat on the sofas in the common room. They were in a deep discussion and Hermione couldn't help but feel she was interrupting something. Clearing her throat, she walked over to them as they quickly looked up, hiding a piece of parchment behind a cushion.
"What are you doing up?" Remus asked, looking at her worried face.
"Couldn't sleep. Nightmares......." She trailed off.
The 4 boys looked at each other with sidelong glances before looking back at Hermione. Nobody spoke and through the quiet, images of the dead made their way to the forefront of Hermione's mind, making her gasp as a small tear trickled from her eye.
"Do you want to talk about it? About what happened before you came here?" James asked, more than uncomfortable with the weeping girl standing opposite him.
"Can we go to your dorm? I'd rather nobody heard." Hermione choked out to which the 4 boys nodded their heads and stood up.
Once in their dorm, Hermione completely broke down before Sirius guided her to sit on his bed. Embracing the young girl, he wondered what had happened to the broken soul in front of him to make her weep so much. Hermione stood up, walking over to the open window.
"I......I was in a war. A battle took place before I came here." The 4 boys gasped at her confession. "I can't tell you exactly what happened. But I was tortured by a death eater." Hermione's eyes moved to her arms as she lifted her sleeve, revealing the cuts and scars to the boys. Sirius came forward, hugging the young girl. Hermione stepped back to the window, looking over the peaceful grounds.
"What about your friends? Are they......?" James trailed off, not wanting to cause her more pain than necessary.
"They're dead. Every one of them. He killed them all." Hermione's eyes stayed unmoving from the window as tears sprung to her eyes. "My fiancé sent me here before he died. He was covered in blood but he wanted me to be safe. He proposed to me before sending me here. In the process of sending me here, he saved me from dying but he sacrificed his own life."
The 4 boys were unable to say anything to her new confession. The news that something like this could happen had punched them all in the stomach. Their carefree lives were about to change and they didn't even realise.
"Hermione...." Sirius choked out. "I'm so sorry." And with them words, Hermione launched herself at the black-haired marauder, enveloping him in a bone crushing hug. "I'm so sorry Hermione."So, I don't know what I think about this chapter.
