"Dumbledore?" A sharp and snobbish voice rang out. Hermione grabbed her wand and pointed at the figure looming over her, hating the fact that she was so jumpy since the war.
"No need for that." Came the voice again.
"What do you want Snivellus?" Hermione rudely asked, wanting to be completely alone, as she wiped the tears that littered her face.
"Not very friendly, are you?" At this, Hermione grimaced, glaring at the hooked nose boy who stood before her. "I was just wondering if you were okay?"
"What's it to you?"
"Again, not very friendly." Snape sat down next to Hermione, his back against the wall and his legs spread out in front of him which easily passed Hermione's short legs. (I feel like this is so random?) "I guess you've seen the prophet?"
Hermione nodded back and wondered why he was taking such an interest in her, last time they had been together, they had been arguing.
"Never really knew the girl myself but, if it affects you so much, I guess she meant something to you?" Snape questioned.
"I was meant to save her.... This is all my fault." Hermione choked out.
"How? It's not your fault at all. It's that 'Grangers' as they call her." Snape said, and Hermione wondered whether they would be talking to peacefully if he knew the truth.
"I should have saved her...." Hermione repeated as more tears fell down her face.
Snape looked down at the young girl who sat next to him, tears pouring down her face. He lifted his arms up, wrapping them around Hermione, pulling her into his side. Hermione let out an inaudible gasp, unsure about the close contact at the man she had once called her professor. The situation seemed so strange to her but seeing no cons, she rested her head against his shoulder, hoping that she was imagining the fact that she felt quite content.
Somebody caught Snape's attention from the other end of the corridor and seeing the two oncoming figures, he grimaced. He caught the red headed girl's eyes before they flitted away to the bushy haired girl and her face resembled a look of confusion. Looking at the boy who was walking next to her, he caught the grey eyed marauder's eyes as he glared back at Snape, judging the position that Hermione and he were in.
The two stopped as they stared at Hermione who, by the looks of it hadn't noticed them who was currently staring at the opposite wall. Snape could tell that Sirius had conflicting emotions going on inside of his head, just by his stance before he curled his lip and marched back the way he came, Lily hot on his trail. Snape looked back to Hermione, who was still staring at the wall opposite, not even vaguely aware of the encounter they had just had. Looking at Hermione, he wondered what had caused her so much grief? What had happened to her before her arrival in the Great Hall? He promised himself that he would find out some time soon. Whenever that was.

Hermione trudged her way to her second lesson of the day, Transfiguration, clutching her stack of books to her chest and internally groaned at the thought of another hour of lessons, something she never thought she would say, even to herself. Outside of the classroom, stood all the people she was trying to stay away from and she mentally cursed that this was how things were going to be now.
Avoiding eye contact, Hermione walked to the door, brushing off Remus' arm that tried to stop her before knocking on the door to the classroom. A sharp 'come in' was heard from inside and Hermione turned the doorknob and walked into the classroom.
