As the month of October dragged on, Hermione found herself becoming closer to the girls in the dorm. In 1997, she had found that she didn't get along with the rest of the girls in her year. They all cared about how they looked, and all they spoke about were boys. Hermione didn't want anything to do with these conversations and she would often find herself seeking the secluded space in the Library. Their conversations irritated her and she would often enjoy the company of yellow toned books instead of her dormmates.

When she had befriended Harry and Ron, she had felt more at home. There were no more conversations and boys, no conversations where all they did was moan about how they looked. For the first couple of years it was okay with the two boys but as she grew older, she found herself seeking female company. The girls in her dorm could still drive her insane but she found refuge in none other than Tonks. The two girls had become very close when Hermione had stayed at Grimmauld place over the summer. Over the same summer, her and Ginny had become firm friends although the differences in their personalities complimented each other. Ginny was more of a tomboy who enjoyed playing quidditch whilst Hermione enjoyed being surrounded by homework and books.

The boys used to tease her continuously about how much time she spent in the library but the silence calmed Hermione in a way that nobody else could.

In 1977, Hermione was delighted to find that Lily was also a girl who enjoyed spending her time in the library. The other girls in their year would look at the 2 girls like they were insane.

At that moment, the two girls were trying to complete their divination essays. Hermione couldn't believe that she had to carry on with a subject that she desperately hated but Lily thought the subject was mysterious. She found it amusing how someone could know what happened to themselves in the future. Whenever she would comment on this, Hermione would wonder whether Lily would like Divination if she found out that she was meant to die.

"Lily, can you just do my homework for me?" Hermione had moaned, something she thought she would never say.

"Just make something up. Professor Boot won't even notice if you do. Now, let me finish this essay. I knew I shouldn't have left it until my free period when I have this exact lesson next!" Lily cried.

Hermione hid her head in her hands, completely in despair. She couldn't wait until the end of the year when she would no longer have to worry about Divination. But another adventure was waiting for her once she left and Hermione was dreading it.

"What are you two lovely witches doing?" said a voice which Hermione had instantly recognised as James from Lily's sigh.

"Go away Potter!" Lily shouted.

"Will you keep your voices down! I will personally kick you out if you continue to shout like a banshee!" Madame Pince hissed at them.

As Hermione looked up, she saw the black-haired marauder behind James who was sniggering to himself. He caught Hermione's eye and smiled back to her. Not his usual smirk but a kind and warm smile. James produced a bouquet of roses from behind his back which he handed to Lily. She smiled at the gesture but quickly wiped her smile off her face as she looked into his hazel eyes.

"Go out with me Evans?" He practically begged and Hermione was surprised that he hadn't got on his knees already.

"No Potter. I won't go out with you. Not now, not ever. But thanks for the flowers." James' face dropped and he looked like he had given up. He looked like he didn't think it was worth it anymore and in that moment Hermione felt truly sorry for him as he walked off, Sirius trailing behind him.

"Why won't you go out with him?" Hermione asked.

"I guess it's habit." Lily answered.

"So, you like him?" Lily's face flushed a dark red at this and Hermione no longer needed an answer. She jumped up from her seat, stuffing her books and half written essay into her bag.

"Where are you going?" Lily asked, the blush slowly creeping away from her face.

"To make sure that Lily Evans becomes Lily Potter!" Hermione had shouted back as she ran out of the Library, as a blush slowly reformed on her friend's face.

Hermione ran into the common room, looking for the two brothers. Seeing no sign of them, she sprinted up the boy's staircase to their dorm, receiving many glares from other girls in the common room. She lightly knocked onto the boy's dorm before walking in. Only one of the three marauders were in the dorm and Hermione was shocked to find Remus sat on the floor with his head in his as tears poured out of his eyes. She sat down next to him, pulling him into a side hug.

"I'm a monster Hermione!" Remus screamed.

"You are not a monster Rem. Just because you're a werewolf, does not mean you are a monster." Hermione said looking into his green eyes as they widened in fear at her knowing his secret. Moving out her grasp, he stood up, ready to leave but Hermione grabbed his wrists and told him to sit back down and with a moment's hesitation he did so.

"How did you know?" Remus asked, his secret now uncovered.

"I'm not the smartest witch of my age for nothing" Hermione easily covered up. "Now, what do you say if we go and find your two idiotic friends?"

Remus nodded his head, his sandy coloured hair falling into his eyes as the two stood up and made their way around the castle.

---------------------------------------------

"Maybe on the Quidditch Pitch?" Remus suggested. Hermione nodded as the two started the long walk outside.

On entering the pitch, Hermione noticed the two figures that were flying around on brooms. One was throwing quaffles towards the goal posts and the other was expertly catching most of them.

"Prongs! Padfoot!" Remus shouted up to them. The two figures looked down at the sounds of their nicknames and easily rode their brooms down to the ground, both jumping off in the process.

"Here for another ride Sunshine?" Sirius asked, making Hermione blush which he smirked at.

"Stop flirting with Hermione Pads. Did you need something?" James asked.

"I have some news for you. Promise you won't scream?" Hermione asked as confusion etched itself onto the three boys faces. "Lily likes you back." James' face broke out into a huge grin and he punched the air in excitement.

"Really? Promise you're not lying?" James asked, as he stared into Hermione's eyes, hoping not to find out that she wasn't lying.

"Completely true. Marauder's honour." The three boys shared a look and Hermione realised she had truly messed things up with just one word. "Yeah, I sort of know about it all. Your nicknames, Rem's furry little problem, the map, your cloak."

The three boys froze and stared at her in confusion, wondering how she knew about everything. Nobody knew about Remus, let alone the cloak and map.

"Stop gawping. James has to win Lily over." Another grin found its way onto James' face. Lily liked him back. Lily liked him back. Lily. The girl who he had liked since second year. No matter how many times he said it to himself, it didn't seem to sink in.
