Chapter Forty Seven: Force of Habit

"Kurt, this is like the third time he's tried calling you in the past thirty minutes. Will you just pick up the damn phone?" Rachel asked, listening to Kurt's ring tone echo through the apartment.

"I'm busy." Kurt shouted from the bathroom.

"Too busy for your own boyfriend?" Rachel asked.

"I have plans with Blaine and he knows that." Kurt said.

"He should come first Kurt." Rachel said.

"I thought it was bros before hoes." Kurt said.

"So now Ben's a slut?" Rachel asked.

"God Rachel, you are impossible!" Kurt exclaimed. "What is your problem with Blaine anyway? We were all friends in high school and it seems like I have to keep reminding you of that."

"My problem is that, that guy is no good." Rachel said.

"Everyone makes mistakes Rachel. Everyone." Kurt said.

"I get that you two were great in high school but he is just not good for you anymore." She said.

"You have no idea how much I want to punch you right now Rachel." Kurt said.

"Kurt he was never good for you. He's so damaged and you'll always suffer when you have to pick up the pieces." Rachel said.

"Blaine and I are not dating Rachel!" Kurt exclaimed. "And he has changed. He is so much happier now. His family is back to being a family. He has the career he's always dreamed of. And he has-"

"You?" Rachel asked. "Please tell me that is not how you were going to finish that sentence."

"That's exactly how I was going to finish." Kurt nodded. "So you better suck it up because Blaine has been nothing but nice to you since we got him back."

"I'm just trying to protect you." She sighed.

"I don't need protecting." Kurt snapped. "I can figure this all out on my own and if it happens that I do get hurt, I won't lean on you for a shoulder to cry on."

"Kurt I'm your best friend and-"

"Then act like it!" He shouted.

"Kurt-"

"I have to go. I'm late meeting up with Blaine." Kurt sighed, grabbing his coat and phone.

"Can we just please talk about this?" Rachel called after him as he headed down the stairs.

"Talk to me when you've learned to grow up." Kurt said, not looking back to see her face.

Screw Rachel. He could do what he wanted. Especially if it involved figuring out these feelings he still had for Blaine.

"Sorry I'm late." Kurt said, slipping into a booth at their diner. They called it their's because they hadn't brought anyone else to it before.

"Rachel giving you trouble again?" He asked.

"You would think after three weeks she'd be comfortable with you being around again but she's being such a bitch about it." Kurt sighed.

"Hard to believe I've been here for three weeks already." Blaine laughed softly.

"I'm glad." Kurt smiled and reached for his hand across the table and intertwined their fingers.
