The battle is in a disarray, the formation of the knights and adventurers are breaking from the assault.
"We need to help them now!!" [Angelica]
Blake, gripped my hand before I was able to leave.
"Blake, let go!" [Angelica]
"Angelica! Can't you see that they're outnumbered!" [Blake]
I bit my lip. I know that Blake is just concerned about my safety.
"We can take them on! We have Maria as support!" [Angelica]
"Even with h.." [Blake]
"Right, Maria?!" [Angelica]
I interrupted Blake and glanced at Maria, she's frightened. Tightly gripping the staff with both of her hands.
"Make your decision! People are dying!" [Angelica]
"I'll help!" [Maria]
"Thank you..." [Angelica]
"We are going to get ourselves killed." [Blake]
Blake unsheathed his jian. We also readied our weapons.
"Maria, use your most powerful attack magic, then Blake, we'll flank their vanguard. Maria, once we cut them off, support the adventurers and knights. [Angelica]
"Got it." [Blake]
"Roger!" [Maria]
We have begun our attack. Maria used ▪Flame Thrower▪ separating the humans from the orcs. We caught the orc scouts off guard and eight died in the fire.
As we came from behind. Blake cut down five of them. He had some trouble because of their armor.
"One... two... three... four..." [Angelica]
I, on the other hand, I cut them down easily. I'm glad that I have this power. Like a knife through butter, their armor melted and their flesh cut.
"W-what is that magic?!" [Maria]
Maria, exclaimed as she saw my slashes drawing a crimson arc. The edge glowing beautifully.
In a mere second, we had already dispatched 20 or so orc scouts. Maria, healing the wounded. Blake and I double teaming the orcs.
We managed to reform the formation, the orc scouts retreated before we can start a proper counterattack. After the fight adventurers came to greet their saviors.
"Who are you?"
"Just a fellow adventurer that came to help." [Blake]
"Thank goodness, support finally came!"
"Did the adventurers guild sent you?"
"We came here from a request for an orc settlement extermination." [Angelica]
"Ahh..."
One of the knights sighs upon hearing that.
"So the news still hasn't spread yet..."
"News?" [Maria]
There, we heard the information on what had happened.
At first, there was a report of a settlement near the city of Suitan. The guild dispatched some adventurers to take care of it, but... the extermination party never returned. A few days later the guild sent more people, but nobody came back, because of that the guild became wary and contacted the kingdom knights. They sent an exploration party the size of 30 into the forest.
Among those 30 people, only four returned, with a grim look on their faces. The survivors said that what they encountered wasn't a settlement... it was the camp for the advancing orc legion scouts.
Before the news reached Suitan it was already too late. The city was quickly overrun, most of the populace is either enslaved or killed...
The remaining survivors, desperately went to nearby cities to warn them and ask for help. By this time two cities had already fallen Suitan and Dalio... then I remembered something
"W-what direction did the legion came from?" [Angelica]
"The north..."
"Ahh..." [Angelica]
As if a heavy weight was lifted off of my chest. Our village Libang is just south of Cagban.
"How large is the legion?" [Maria]
"Probably in the thousands."
"Thousands?!" [Blake]
"How were they able to mobilize that many orcs?!" [Angelica]
"I don't know... they just came out of nowhere."
"For now, even if we pushed back the scouts. Their main force will be arriving soon."
"We should retreat." [Blake]
"Yes and help barricade the city as long as the legion is still far away."
"Do you have any transport?" [Angelica]
"Sadly no... the horses were killed during the ambush."
"Damn" [Blake]
"Then, a two-week travel then?" [Angelica]
"We can march for a week and a half."
With only a bit of rest, we stopped for a few hours, then resumed on walking. We arrived back at the city of Cagban. My feet had blisters from marching too long, good thing we have some people who knew how to use heal and we have an ample stock of potions.
News of the legion, quickly spread some people fled the city. While others armed themselves, with three days left to spare before the legion arrives. The city mayor sent their quickest couriers to nearby cities for support and to warn them of impending danger.
In two days we have completed the defense of the city, we just hope that support will come soon. Shops and merchants that stayed, were very cooperative, they loaned out their inventory for the attack. Also in that time, I've learned how to use wind magic, but still don't know what it will do if I enchanted it...
