I AM SO SORRY ABOUT THE MONTH LONG WAIT ON THIS CHAPTER. I HOPE THE LENGTH MAKES UP FOR IT. IT'S 13,645 WORDS.
During winter break in the middle of February, an acquaintance of mine posted a picture on Instagram of this cool looking place she went to. There were old, run down buildings and I was immediately intrigued. I looked in her comments and saw she had already told someone where they had gone. I Googled the place and it was an old asylum.
I'm not going to give too many facts about it because I don't really want people knowing where I live. But basically, it used to be one of the largest facilities for the treatment of mental illnesses in the state where I live. It was built in the late 1800s and had officially closed down in the last decade, even though it had been going down hill for years (YAY! So cool!). Today, some of the facilities are still used for research purposes (on God knows what) and the City Council is looking at "re-purposing" the buildings (for God knows what). And, it is only an hour and twenty minutes away from where I live (double YAY!).
I WANTED TO GO SO BAD.
I tagged Ocelot in the comments saying, CAN WE GO?
He didn't reply to that for 24 hours. So, I messaged Ocelot over Snapchat.
And I literally called him boi, no, I screamed at him BOI and asked if he had seen my tag.
He eventually replied to that saying he hadn't seen it, so I told him what it was and he said he was interested. Though, we didn't make any definitely plans.
Fast forward to the next week on Monday. We were riding in my car going to the farm to pick up the truck and then the deliver the treadmill when Ocelot says, "Oh, I have Thursday off this week. So, if you wanted to go to that asylum place then, we can."
"That'll work! I don't have work and I can just ask off from my internship."
Through Snapchat, we messaged a few more times about the time we'd get back and etc. We both thought of excuses for our parents and everything was gucci. (I told my parents I had work and my supervisor at my internship that I had an assignment I had to stay after school for or something.)
Thursday went as normal, but I was so excited and hype for the trip. Tuesday I had went out and even bought a bunch of snacks to bring along. #prepared
The class prior to when we were supposed to leave dismissed and I tried hanging around inside the class to wait for Ocelot. When I saw he was taking a while, I walked outside the class and hung out in the hall. He came out and I stepped in line with him. His friend Koala (she and I are barely acquainted), who's also one of the girls I thought he was interested in, was also with him.
Koala looked at me and said, "So I hear you're helping this criminal--" she pointed at Ocelot "out."
I was surprised he told her. I don't know why, but it doesn't seem like any of his friends would know. If some of them knew, it would definitely get around to the other kid's in our program at school. That, or he only told the people that wouldn't spread the info around, or if his group does know they haven't said anything around my friends and I.
So, I didn't say anything in response and just laughed because I was caught off guard. Plus, I don't know her that well and had no idea what to say in response. Her and Ocelot bickered about it as we walked down the hall and to the first floor of the building. She also said a few things towards me along the same line of what she had said before. I just smiled at her comments and shrugged, saying "I suppose I am" and " I guess we both criminals then."
Ocelot gave Koala a hug before she went a different way and the two of us went out the door of the school.
We got in the car and reviewed the directions I had screenshot-ed from Google Maps (I don't have data for my phone, so I always have to plan in advance with this stuff.) Then, we got on the road.
