"(Y/N)!" Luffy calls to you as you walk across the grass towards your friends. You drop your bag and collapse onto your knees between Usopp and Robin in the circle of teenagers. With a defeated sigh you lie backwards in the grass and close your eyes. The sun tickles your skin and the chatter of your friends fades into the constant call of the cicadas that have returned to the trees for the upcoming Summer.
You are finally facing the consequences of being so out of it for the past few weeks. With exams right around the corner your teachers had doubled the amount of work and you had not done any of it in the state you had been in after your brother's death.
If it hadn't been for the virtual reality system you would probably still be in that same state, unable to even think about your schoolwork.
But now you are spending most of your free time catching up and that means staying up later so you can still have time to play Dungeons and Dragons Online as well as a bit of Pokemon Online.
"(Y/N)?" Usopp wakes you from your daydream, gently prodding at your side. "Are you listening"
"No" you admit quietly. "Too tired" you close your eyes and breathe deeply.
"Well there's a new game coming out soon. It's called Tribals, you should look into it when you're feeling better" he explains quickly then turns back to the group to let you rest.
You hear small bits of the conversation the group have as you lie beside your friends and manage to piece together what the game Tribals will be about.
Usopp describes it as a open world multiplayer virtual reality game. Players join tribes that can claim pieces of land and fight over land with other tribes if they want to expand.
Everyone in the group seems interested in buying the game so you probably will as well.
Before you know it time is up and you are ripped away from your thoughts by an obnoxious bell. You force yourself to your feet and begin the tiring trek to your next class.
You know studying in this state will be impossible so as soon as you get home you switch the computer on and place the VR gear over your head.
Your DnD online friends seem to all be offline so you log into Pokemon Online.
Surgeon is already online so you message him as soon as you get in game, asking him to meet you at the Pokemon centre you had been at when you had separated.
He quickly replies with 'k' so you sit on the stone steps that lead to the glass doorway and wait.
With a flourish of your hand you release Mudkip and Zigzagoon from their containment. Mudkip chirps his name and waddles towards you, pushing his head under your cartoon like hand and laying down on the stone.
Zigzagoon stretches then takes off, weaving through the grass but never straying too far from you.
"(U/N)" a deep voice greets and you turn to see Surgeon with the calm ice Pokemon glaceon strutting at his side. He stops when he reaches you and sets himself down on the dirt ground. Glaceon takes her place at his side, ears upright and alert. She watches the long grass for any potential danger that could threaten her master.
"Where's your other Pokemon?" Surgeon asks, motioning his hand towards your blue companion who naps at your side. A rustle of the grass answers his question as your raccoon like Pokemon sprints out of the grass and right past Surgeon, scaring Glaceon into a fighting stance with her ice-hackles raised in anger.
Surgeon calms her easily but she is definitely not happy and sends a glare your way.
"So what is the goal for today?" You ask the black haired player, calling Zigzagoon back to you so you can clean the grass and dirt out of her spiky fur.
