Law's face is probably the nicest thing you have ever woken up to. He's still asleep breathing softly and you have to admit he's cute for a guy who recently shot someone in the head. You turn into your side and shuffle closer to him, wincing slightly in pain, trying to imprint this picture into your brain.
His breathing changes and his grey eyes flutter open to see you watching him.
"Were you watching me sleep?" He accuses lightly.
"Maybe." You reply, a smile forming on your lips.
"Get a room!" Sanji complains from the doorway. He must have just entered when you were watching Law. Both of you turn your heads towards him.
"We have a room Sanji-ya, you're the one who came in here." Law replies with a cocky grin on his face.
"Well we need to discuss our next moves."
Law groans then sits up, rubbing his eyes and yawning.
"You're right. Getting out of here is our top priority."
"I've already packed up a bit of food for you but you're going to need to tell me what else you need and where you're going."
Law rises out of the bed with his expression turned serious.
"I need to change (Y/N)-ya's dressings first and she needs some new clothes."
Looking down you notice that you are wearing the same clothes as the day you visited Law's apartment. They are also caked in Vergo's dried blood.
"We should burn these." You suggest.
"Good thinking. I need to head back to my apartment and pick up a few things. Clothes, books, medical supplies, my dog." Law lists the things, counting them on his fingers.
"Your dog?" Sanji asks.
"Yes, who else will take care of him while I'm gone?"
"Okay so first stop: your apartment. Second stop?"
"There's a secret cabin that I've hidden at before. I don't think anyone else knows about it." Law replies.
"And what if someone's already there?" You ask.
"We'll cross that bridge if we reach it."
-------------------------------------
After a painful redressing of wounds and a rushed car packing the three of you are on your way. Sanji sits in the front while you and Law are in the back so you can duck down if you come across any of the Donquixote family.
It feels weird to think of them like that. For your entire life you believed that you were part of his family but it turns out he has another one with a strange collection of lawless people. It almost makes you sad to think that your mother is going along with her life without a single suspicion about any of this.
By the time you arrive in the city the tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Law is careful and instructs Sanji on which route has fewer security cameras. It's like he's had all of this planned out before.
He then sneaks into his apartment and returns soon afterwards with a full backpack and a dog. Bepo wags his tail with joy at the prospect of going on a road trip.
"I always took you to be more of a German Shepherd, Rottweiler or Doberman type." Sanji admits after Bepo had finally calmed down.
"I like any dog, as long as they aren't one of those squashed face ones." Law replies. Bepo pants happily, filling the car with the stench of dog breath. "And we're just going to drop him off at Shachi's place so he doesn't get in the way."
Sanji rolls down all of the windows slightly and then follows Law's directions across the city towards Shachi's place. The stop is brief and then the car is rolling back into the countryside.
Law directs the car into the forested mountains and through a windey road with very few other cars on it. He points out a town which is hidden by the trees but instructs Sanji to keep driving until you all reach a side road.
"It's a bit of a walk." Law tells you. "Will you be okay with it?"
"I can manage." You reply. Law swings the backpack over his shoulders and pulls Bepo away from the car.
"Thank you Sanji-ya." He says. "Return home quickly and come up with some excuse as to why you were away."
With a quick goodbye Sanji drives away and you are left on the side of the road with Law.
"Right, it's through here." Law says, walking straight into the unmarked forest. You follow him and soon the road is out of sight. You are disorientated and lost but Law seems to know exactly which way to go. He leads you through the forest until you reach a small river. The water in it is clear and it is relaxing to listen to.
"The cabin doesn't have any electricity but the plumbing still works, miraculously." Law explains as he leads you up the river. "I wouldn't drink the tap water but we can boil it on the gas stove."
You stomach and ribs hurt from all of the punching. Before you left this morning you had burnt your clothes so you are currently wearing some of Sanji's sister's clothes that she had left at the bach. They are too big for you but are suitable for wandering through a forest. You took another pair of pants and two more shirts but you know that you will run out eventually. You stumble on a root and Law is quick to catch you.
"Just a little bit further." He says, letting you lean on him for the rest of the way. Eventually you emerge from the forest at the side of a small lake. On the side of the lake you can see a small wooden cabin.
Law leads you to it and opens it up. There isn't any lock on the door but it is a little stiff and hard to open.
You enter into the main room which includes a living room, dining room and a kitchen. The table only holds four people and the couch looks faded. There is no fridge but there are counters and a gas stove. Looking through the drawers you see that an assortment of cutlery, plates and cooking utensils remain. There is a bathroom with a toilet, sink and rickety looking bath. In the next room is an old bare mattress on the floor of a rather large bedroom.
"How long will we stay here for?" You ask yourself.
"I don't know, until we can find somewhere better?" Law replies from behind you. You hadn't heard him sneak up on you so you recoil slightly out of surprise.
"But how long will we be running from my father?"
"As long as he is chasing us." Law's grey eyes look sad.
"But what about all of our friends, what about my mum?"
"It's either this or our lives, and I want to keep you safe. Remember what I said last night?" He rests one hand gently on the sides of your shoulder and the other reaches up to cup the side of your face.
You nod slowly.
"Well we have to live in the present for now, we can worry about the future when we are safe. Today we just need to survive then tomorrow we can live."
