Chapter 51

Two chapters this week because I was away and couldn't post anything last week. 

You log on as soon as you are done with your shower, not even bothering to dry your hair before placing the VR set over your head.

You spawn into the world to see that Robin and Vivi are already on and building a second inner wall on the base.

"Hey (Y/N)!" Vivi greets you.

"Wassup." You reply. You glance around the area, checking for any tasks you can complete. "What are we up to?"

"Well Robin gathered all the materials for a second wall which we're building now. I would get you to help us with that but Kat has been acting up lately."

"Kat?" You ask.

"You know your big cat thing that you tamed and then she hated you." Vivi reminds you. "And she's just kind of been sitting in that pen waiting for you to return."

"Oh! That Kat." You glance over to the pen that you had left her in. You had tried to train her a few times since but ended up just getting really frustrated when she ignored you.

"Yeah so maybe just take care of some of the tames or something, especially Kat." Vivi suggests. "We need them to all be at their best if we get attacked again."

"I'm on it." You reply.

Vivi gets back to work and you find yourself standing uselessly outside of Kat's pen, not particularly certain that you want to mess with the beast.

You step in cautiously, closing the door immediately so she can't escape. Kat's amber eyes fall onto you immediately with a soft glare. She gets up from where she was lying on the ground and into a defensive position.

"Hi Kat." You greet. "Long time no see."

She growls, lips pulling up to reveal her four largest fangs.

"I'm sorry I haven't been here in a while." You say, as if she could understand you. You slide down against the wall and onto the ground, hoping that she will be less aggressive if she sees that you are not a threat.

She stops baring her teeth but remains standing and tense, her tail swishes behind her heavily and emphasises her discomfort with the situation.

"Chill." You say as you pull a piece of meat from your inventory and chuck it towards her. She grabs it and holds it down with her claws, lying back down to eat but still keeping an eye on you. Her autumn leaf coloured coat gleams as she moves.

"So how am I supposed to level up your tame level or whatever it is so that you become actually useful?" You ask the feline. You check it's stats and notice that the tame level had gone up to two while you had been offline at some point and it seems to be getting close to three.

"I should have read the patch notes." You complain as you try to work out how your beast works. "At what level are you actually going to listen to me?"

You relax back onto the wall of the pen and stare up at the sky.

"Maybe I just have to feed you until you trust me." You contemplate.

You look back down to see that Kat has finished her meal and has stood back up. Her eyes are set right on you but her posture is not nearly as defensive as it was before. She takes a slow step towards you and then another one. You remain absolutely still. Eventually she makes it just inches away from you and begins to sniff. Her movements stay very slow and wary and she keeps her eyes wide open on you.

She reaches one of your hands which is resting on your knee and nudges it with her nose. Excruciatingly slowly you lift your hand slightly and hold it out, palm facing up, for her to check. Kat sniffs and then you raise the hand over her and gently place it on her head. She leans into your hand and you begin to slowly pat her.
