Christmas morning begins with sleeping in. A lot.

In previous years you would usually be up earlier but as you and your brother entered high school you learnt to appreciate every second of sleep you could get. Until your father would grow impatient and wake you up. Of course your brother could sleep like a hibernating bear so you would still have to wait for him to get up.

The four of you would then exchange gifts, eat breakfast then go visit your grandparents and the rest of your family for lunch or dinner, sneaking away with your cousins to the beach while the adults adulted.

The minute you open your eyes you know that this year is going to be different.

There is no father to wake you up. There is no brother to wait for.

It is only you and your mum in a house that seems much too large for the two of you.

You force those thoughts out of your head and get out of bed. Moving to your dresser you grab the bracelet Law had gifted to you and slip it onto your wrist. You make your way to the kitchen where you find your mother staring into space with a cup of cold tea in her hands.

"Mum?" You lightly touch her shoulder and she shakes herself from her daze. "Are you okay?"

She looks confused for a moment after having to yank herself back into reality.

"Yes. Yes (Y/N) I'm absolutely fine." She takes a sip of the cold tea and is seemingly taken aback by the lack of warmth. "When did that happen?" She murmurs to herself.

You move into the living room and to the plastic pine tree your family has been using ever since you can remember. You remove a small box wrapped in blue from under the tree and take it back to the kitchen where your mother is warming up her tea.

"This is for you." You say, handing her the box. She unwraps it to find the earrings you had bought for her on the day that your father had been arrested.

"Thank you (Y/N), they are so lovely." She responds, pulling you into a hug.

She then drags you by the arm back into the living room where she holds out a gift for you. You unwrap it and pull out some nice cozy looking pyjamas.

You thank her then the both of you sit down for breakfast. It isn't particularly exciting but but you know your mother is trying to save space for the massive lunch your grandparents always prepare. You gather up gifts for your cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents and follow your mother to her car.

Just as she is about to start the car there is a knock on the window and you look out to see a reporter with a camera following her outside the drivers side of the car.

"Hello?" The reporter directs at your mother. "Are you the wife of Donquixote Doflamingo?"

You sink further back into your seat, hiding from the camera.

"So what?" Your mother replies, starting to look impatient at the hold up.

"Your husband has recently been arrested for an assortment of different crimes, I was looking for your views on some of the things that have been said about him."

"Please leave me alone." Your mother says. But the reporter keeps asking questions.

"How does it feel living from money earned through criminal activity? Have you contacted any of the families of your husband's victims? Have they contacted you? How much of Donquixote's blood money have you spent over the past year?"

"Please just go away." Your mother begs quietly.

"What about the allegations about him killing his own son?" The reporter almost yells.
