Your night is filled with fitful sleep and nightmares that wake you in a cold sweat. At 4am you give up on getting any decent rest and wander upstairs with your phone, wrapped in a fluffy blanket.
The world is serene and silent, aside from the odd breeze that shuffles the leaves. Back home there would sometimes be the distant rumble of cars at this time but here there is nothing and you feel truly alone. Usually you would be going to bed at this time after a long night of gaming with Law. He is probably be logging off for the night about now. You switch your phone on and go to the chatting app, opening your conversation with Law. Your fingers hover over the letters as you think about what to say. He is still online but is not playing any games. He probably only just quit off.
You could tell him about the man Vergo and the creepy conversation you had witnessed. You hadn't wanted to involve any of your other friends with this but Law seems to have some experience when it comes to potential crimes. You want to ask him what to do and have him ensure your safety from the people who have possession of your blood.
You focus back into reality to see that Law has gone offline. He's probably trying to sleep. You consider messaging him anyway but decide to let him get the rest that you can't.
You sigh and drop your phone onto the couch beside you, bored out of your mind but much too active to return to bed. You lay around, not doing much, until 7am when you hear footsteps coming up the stairs. You glance towards the stairwell to see Sanji wandering up, fully dressed but with the signs of sleep still in his eyes. He shuffles past you, yawning, and into the kitchen around the corner. It is only once he is out of sight that he stops and turns around, walking back into the games room.
"What are you doing up?" He asks.
"I woke up early and didn't want to disturb the others." You mumble a reply.
"Did you try going back to sleep?"
"Yeah, couldn't."
"Well I'm going to get started on breakfast." He mentions, returning to the kitchen.
"I can help." You say, rising to your feet with the blanket wrapped around your shoulders.
Sanji begins working his way around the kitchen, knowing off by heart where everything is and putting it all together with ease. You sit at the counter at the edge of the kitchen, next to the box the bellbird chick is in. You open the lid to see it resting in a corner.
Usopp had researched the food and water to make sure the box would be as comfortable as possible for the young creature.
"Why did we hide from that guy in the shady place?" You suddenly ask. Sanji hesitates a bit before continuing with his work and replying.
"Well it was a shady place, and he seemed to be a shady person." Sanji seems unconvinced at his own answer.
"But there was a huge group of us, if we had just stuck together we should've been fine." You reason. "So why did we hide?"
Sanji puts the food he was working on and turns to you.
"Some of the shady people here are not people you want to mess with, or even be seen by." Sanji answers honestly. "There are a few large organisations around here that have connections."
"No one is trying to shut them down?"
"Everyone here kind of turns a blind eye." The blonde admits.
"Why would your family have a bach here if everyone knows what's happening?" You interrogate.
Sanji drops his eyes and fidgets with his hands. For once the confidence that he usually holds so well has vanished as he thinks about his next answer.
