You are in the middle of dinner with your mother when the message from Surgeon about the wyvern comes through. You aren't able to respond because your mother has a strict "no phones at the table" rule. So instead you are stuck at the dining table.
Your mother finishes her own dinner, placing her knife and fork neatly on her plate. You grab your phone and try to make a run for it before she calls you back to the table.
"(Y/N), stay back for a minute please." She requests politely.
You moan and fall back into your seat, staring broodingly at your mother.
"Your father will be back in two days" she announces. It's not much of a surprise as your graduation night is rapidly approaching and the time for the decision of your future is running out.
"You can't spend all of your time on the computer and playing games when he's here." She instructs. "We'll try to do some family activities, we don't do those too often. We'll try to be a proper family again."
You nod and stay silent, hoping that she will let you go if you don't complain or attempt to debate with her. Of course that doesn't work.
"And I know that we've never really been a normal family with your father always at work but I am sure he wants to spend more time with you. And I'm sure he wishes he could have spent time with..." Your mother trails off but you know she is talking about your brother.
"He was always playing games when Doffy was home from his business trips so they weren't as close as he would have liked them to be." Your mother uses your father's nickname, which she hasn't used since his business really picked up and he became more busy. That was when you had just started school and back then he put in a little more effort to take care of you and your brother. His time with you became less and less and eventually he spent more time away on business than being home with his family. This was around the time that your brother got into gaming.
"I'm sure Doffy will spend more time with us over the Summer holidays and that means you also have to give up some of your game time for family time." It's a fair enough request but you can't help the sinking feeling in your heart that comes with the idea of not spending as much time online, especially so soon after exams.
"That is all." Your mother dismisses you and you hurriedly clean your plate and run down the carpeted hall into your bedroom.
You had already prepared a few supplies for your journey to the Heart tribe base. You have all the food, water, transport, fur armor and weapons necessary for your journey as well as a few extra objects.
Instead of your normal crowned ibak you ride a black, carnivorous, six legged reptile that is quite common in the deeper parts of the jungle. This creature is strong, highly aggressive and difficult to tame, although not as difficult as taming an ice wyvern. It can navigate through the jungle easily and without disturbance from other aggressive beasts that lurk between the trees.
The rest of the journey is not so easy.
While this particular creature can weave through trees and step between the roots of the many trees in the jungle without a hitch, open land is a different situation. And an open land that is covered in snow is even worse.
Why you thought that taking this creature into an area that is completely out of its element would be a good idea is beyond you but here you are and you should make do with the current situation.
