2 ~ Tien Shan Village

The Tien Shan mountain range running through Central Asia is largely unexplored, due to the relative isolation and inaccessibility. However, more people are taking on the challenge of trekking the Tien Shan. All stories have their own twist, but a particular two seems to have attracted the most attention.

Back in 2014 two men were exploring the Tien Shan mountain range when they started to get a little lost. The two got farther into the mountains than they expected. Perhaps the two should have tried going back, but they decided they couldn't. An opportunity like this was just too hard to pass up!

While wandering, the two men came across a very small village. Maybe ten or twelve tiny houses were set up side by side. The two men were hesitant at first, but in the end the thought of some directions on where to go overruled.

When the men came closer, they realised they people there seemed off. The adults were clothed as much as possible it seemed, while the children were bare. Each and every villager wore a brown mask with black eyes but no mouth or nose features.

One of the men wished to leave. He got "a weird vibe being around these people." The other man told him that he was being ridiculous, even thought they both were a little shaken with nerves.

The men walked closer to the village. The villagers seemed to not notice the trespassers, staying focused on their activities: communicating, eating, watching children play.

"Uh, excuse me?" One of the men tried.

No one even flinched. The men thought it was strange how easily they were ignoring them. The masks indeed covered their eyes, but they could hear the men, surely.

The other man grew a little irritated with how rude the villagers were being. He grabbed a close woman's shoulder to turn her around, however, she stiffened up and screeched. The woman's screaming brought attention from the entire camp. She hurried away from the men as fast as she could, cornering near a group of other women and children for protection.

The men in the village where watching the two mountaineers. They nervously backed away once they noticed how the natives were walking closer. Eventually their slow backing up turned into a run.

Several times the men fell, as it wasn't an easy climb up or down, but they had to escape the hollering natives. The natives chased them until they got to the edge of the woods, where they stopped. One of the men turned around to look at the villagers, confused, but his friend just continued to pull them along.

When the men returned to civilization, they immediately began to tell their tale. This brought attention in areas along the East, but the news didn't go far enough as to travel to Westerners. See, shortly after the discovery, the men and a few others decided to investigate the small village.

However, when they returned, there was no one. Abandoned shelters, bones and squashed food, and a few cloths still left. Someone had indeed been living there, but they had since moved on.
