A wife and her husband had plans to go out one night for their anniversary. Sadly, their regular babysitter canceled, leaving their 6 month-old son caregiver-less. Eventually, they asked their neighbor; a sweet old lady who has a habit of forgetting things.
"Of course! I'd love to watch him!" The cheery old woman replied when asked by the couple to watch their son.
"Thank you very much! Come over tomorrow night at 8 PM." The couple instructed.
The next night it was passed 8. The wife crossed her arms and tapped her foot impatiently, while the husband assumed she was busy and must have forgot. The husband gave the neighbor a call.
"Are you still coming to babysit?" The father asked when the old lady picked up.
"Oh! I must have forgot. Yes, I'll be right over!" The woman said apologetically before hanging up.
When the old woman arrived the couple gave he instructions. "He's to be in bed by 9 PM, and if it isn't too much trouble, put a chicken in the oven for tomorrow's dinner."
"I have everything covered." The neighbor assured.
Later that night it grew late. It was half past nine and the couple was on their way back home. Before reaching, the wife called to check in.
"You put the baby to bed, right?" The wife asked when the woman picked up.
"I've seemed to forgot! I will get to that." The old woman said from the other end of the line.
"What about the chicken?" The wife asked, unaware of the old woman's bad memory in the beginning, but was now catching on.
"I forgot that to! I'll get to it right away!" The old lady said a rushed goodbye then hung up.
When the couple returned home they paid the old neighbor and she left for home. The wife walked upstairs to check on her son before bed. When she looked into his crib, she was horribly confused. There was a raw chicken in the crib.
Downstairs the oven was smoking. The husband turned the oven off and opened it to look inside. "She burned the damned chicken!"
