(ORIGINALLY FROM URBAN LEGENDS AND SCARY STORIES!)

Many years ago, there was an old, one-shot house that stood at the top of a hill. The locals called it Croglin Grange and three young adults live there: a young woman and her two brothers.
The three siblings were sitting outside on the verandah, enjoying the cool air. It had been a hot summer, so the breeze that had been blowing all day was welcome. They watched the sun set, as just as the moon was becoming more and more visible in the sky, they decided to go to bed.
A few hours later, the woman got up from her bed. The heat made it difficult for her to sleep, so she opened up one of her windows and peered outside. Hopefully the cool air and humming crickets could soothe her to sleep.
Suddenly, the woman saw to tiny lights moving by the woods at the bottom of the hill. The woman assumed it was an animal of some kind, attracted to a recent burial in the nearby graveyard. The woman tried to see what kind of animal it was, wanting to tell her brothers if she spotted a coyote or not.
The woman kept her eyes on the woods, but then something stepped out of the shadows. Not an animal, a creature- one only concocted in nightmares and horror stories. For a few minutes, the woman watched the human-looking-creature. It moved farther up the hill until it reaches the front lawn, crawling to her window.
As the woman watched on, she most uncontrollable terror seized her. The woman wanted to run so badly to alarm her brothers, open the door that was right next to the window, but she was too scared to move. What if the creature saw her? She wanted to scream, but her window was open, and her tongue suddenly felt glued to the roof of her mouth.
The woman finally came to her senses, however, and ran to the door. Once she began unlocking it, though, she heard a scratching noise by the window... Like something was trying to crawl through.
When the woman turned around, she saw the head of the creature just poking through her window. It had a brown, shrunken and shriveled up face, with flaming eyes watching her. The woman went to scream, but only a squeak came out.
The creature used it's bony hands to pull itself through the window. Right as the woman almost finished with the lock, the creature grabbed the woman by the hair and dragged her back over to her bed. The creature buried its teeth into the woman's neck, emitting a blood-curdling scream from her lips that rang throughout the house.
When her brothers heard their sister's scream, they rushed to her aid. However, the door was locked, so they couldn't get inside. By the time they broke down the door, the crature had fled. Their sister was lying in her bed, unconscious, with blood pooling out of her neck.
While one of the brothers used a towel to stop the bleeding, the other brother ran after the creature and chased it down the hill. Once he got close to the graveyard, however, he lost sight of the thing all together. The brother went back to the house to see if he could help in some other way.
The woman was very scared, and badly hurt, so they took her to the hospital where the wound was disinfectant and treated. The doctor put a bandage around her neck and told her that she would have to stay a couple of days. Gradually, the wound began to heal and the doctor said the woman was healthy enough to go home.
The brothers reported the incident to the police, but they couldn't figure out what had happened. The police said it was probably a lunatic who escaped the local asylum, and began working on checking for missing patients there.
The brothers didn't want their sister to go back to the house, let alone sleep in the same room she had been attacked in, but she insisted. "After all," the woman said, "it's not like lunatics escape the asylum every day." The brothers relented, but just in case, they slept in a room across from hers, with loaded pistols on the bedside tables.
The winter season passed peacefully and happily, with no more attacks. Of course, a nightmare would plague the woman every now and then, and sometimes the woman would grow paranoid, but she reasoned with herself that the lunatic had no reason to return. For all he knew, she was dead.
The peace was put to an abrupt stop, however, in the beginning week of spring. The woman was awakened by a sound of nails scratching onto the glass of her closed window. When the girl fearfully opened her eyes, she saw, to her horror, the same brown, shrunken face from all those months ago. This time, the woman screamed as loud as she could. Upon hearing this, the brothers grabbed their pistols and came running.
The crature took off, but the brothers raced it down the hill. One of them tool a and fired a shot at it, hitting the creature in the leg. The crature fell over, but it managed to get back up and limp over to the graveyard wall. The brothers watched as it seemed to scramble over the wall into an old burial vault.
The next day, the woman and the brothers demanded the priest to open the burial vault. Inside, there was a horrifying scene. The coffins had been broken open, with bones and rotting flesh strewn about the small space. Only one coffin was still intact.
When they opened it, there may the same hideous, withered and shriveled creature that had attacked the girl. When the priest examined the corpse, he found a bullet in its leg.
They did the only thing they knew to rid themselves of a vampire. The priest built a blazing fire outside the vault. Then, the brothers dragged the shriveled body out of the vault and tossed it into the flames. They watched as the corpse burn until it was nothing but ashes.
