(BASED OFF OF TRUE EVENTS IN MY LIFE...)

It was January and had finally snowed! I was disappointed that it missed Christmas, but happy that I was out of school. I mostly spent my time indoors, but I did go out for about an hour, just walking around the huge backyard, and near the newly planted trees up front.

The next day, the snow began melting. I was on the front porch talking with my grandpa while he was smoking. Suddenly he pointed out a pair of footprints not too far from my brother's and I's bedroom window.

"Those are yours, right?" Grandpa had asked.

"Yea– no." I walked to the edge of the porch to inspect the footprints.

There were only footprints going near the porch steps to a little ways towards the bedroom window. I didn't go near the front of the house, just the trees a few yards away. I also didn't drag my feet in the snow.

It bothered me enough to ruin the perfection of the powdery white, so I didn't dare drag my feet. It looked too messy. Those footprints weren't mine.

My grandpa and I theorized, guessing it could have been our neighbor, but he hadn't visited that night. We decided it was nothing.

About a week or two ago my brother got scared by a noise he was hearing. I didn't notice it until I heard tapping on the window. I slowly left our bedroom and went to tell our grandparents.

Now, we lived right beside a trailer park, and there are a lot of druggies in my town. They're 98℅ of the time harmless. The most dangerous factor is probably their dogs. However, this doesn't keep my fears and anxiety at bay.

My grandpa told us to pretend everything was normal while he went to grab a gun. My brother and I played on our phones while watching M*A*S*H, trying to keep our nerves down.

My grandma locked the backdoor and turned on the front and porch light. She stood at the front door, waiting for my grandpa to get done.

He had swept the property, looking by the fence row and under the porch, but couldn't find anyone. We assumed it was probably a neighbor knocking loudly on someone else's door, since everyone loves arguing over here.

There's a neighbor of mine who died last year. Didn't know him, just a guy a few houses down. He owned a red truck and every morning would drive to work. About 4:30 he'd drive back up his driveway.

Lately I've noticed this red truck that is a dead ringer for the neighbor's truck. It'll slowly drive by the neighborhood, sometimes stop, then continue. I haven't checked the neighbor's driveway when this happens because I've just now connected the dots.

It's a little weird, that this dead guy's truck is being all shady in our neighborhood. Who knows, maybe it's just a grief-stricken family member/friend driving to that emotional "Drive Your Truck" song 🤷
