21 ~ The White Death

No– I'm not talking about dying from a Tuberculosis epidemic. The White Death is a very popular urban legend. The most popular version of The White Death is a first person account that claims the story's origins are from Mexico. However, the article I read claimed it was about a girl in Scotland.

No matter the location they all share the same details, such as the ones below:

The White Death, or La Muerte Blanca in Spanish, was a young girl who hated herself. I imagine the back story can be stretched out to where she starved and often self-injured herself. Eventually she couldn't take it anymore and decided she wanted to destroy every last trace of herself. La Muerte Blanca committed suicide, only for her body to be discovered by her family later.

In a sickening twist, every single member of La Muerte Blanca's family that knew of her death died just days after her suicide. Their limbs were torn apart.

The legend says whoever learns about her death is destined to meet the same fate, for the White Death hated herself so much, no one could know she existed. At nighttime she comes to your door, knocking. One version says she knocks louder and louder until finally you answer, or just waits for you to recklessly open the door without checking. The other version claims the number of times she knocks informs you what part of your body she wants to focus on, whether it be your skin or your eyes.

Remember to listen out for any knocking on your doors tonight, and make sure to check before opening it...
