Chapter Twenty Eight: A Bloody Hunt

In the Imperial Palace, many of the remaining Generals have come together in the Council Hall to discuss a strategy to defeat the Revolutionary Army. At one head of the table, Prime Minister Honest sits, eating his many pieces of meat as he usually does, with his trusted guard to his right and his son to his left. "The Revolutionary Army has breached the En Gate without spilling a single drop of blood. Do any of you have some any ingenious plans to counter this threat?", Honest asks as he looks to the Generals for ideas. "Damn it all, surrendering without a fight again! All our commanders are spineless cowards!!", one man shouts in frustration. "What are our armies doing? We should stop putting down petty riots and focus on the bigger threat heading our way!", another one shouts from across the room. One of the other Generals just sighs and calmly says, "Our armies have engaged the enemy multiple times, but they are full of experienced Generals, some of which have Imperial Arms of their own." "Black Marine, Scream, Heev, and countless others have been sighted on the battlefield under the control of the Revolutionary Army. We don't stand a chance against so many Imperial Arms.", another General says as he hangs his head in disappointment. "So that's where they've been this whole time. They've been falling into the hands of the Revolutionary Army. It'd seem like we've been underestimating them this whole time...", another General says calmly as he seems to get lost in thought. Honest just snickers at the Generals panicking before saying, "They're all so pathetic. I can barely eat in this atmosphere." Suddenly, someone comes stomping into the room. They hear General Budo sternly say, "Stop wavering, you pathetic fools. You call yourselves protectors of the people?" "Ah, General Budo! So, you finally decided to show up. Isn't that just, wonderful.", the ominous body guard says with a smile. Budo just glares at the man before saying, "If the Revolutionary Army reaches the Capital, my men and I will eliminate them without a moment's hesitation. Do not fear." "That's reassuring. If he's here to fight for us and we still have General Esdeath and Hitzugaea, we can't lose!", a General says with a grin on his face. "Yeah, there wasn't any real reason to worry after all..", another one says with a sigh of relief. Budo just glares at the cowards, causing them to tremble in fear before saying, "A military officer is not to interfere with the government. That was what my father taught me, and what he learned from his father before him. My family has believed in this rule from the moment my great great great great grandfather was given the title of General. However, I cannot remain silent in a time like this. After the Revolutionary Army is eradicated from existence, I will personally eliminate the source of the Empire's instability no matter who or what that may be.", as his murderous intent seems to fill the room. He glares at Honest to show he knows who the source truly, but Honest just laughs it off before saying, "Oh, so scary. I don't know who you're talking about, but that person should be shaking in their boots." Honest gives him a wicked smile before saying, "I'd hate to see what would happen to someone who stands against you, General Budo." "Pops is pretty relaxed about all of this. He's got somethin up his sleeve, I just know it. I'm glad I came back at such a great time!!", Syura says with a slight grin on his face as he watches the stare down between his father and General Budo.

Back at the Night Raid base, hidden in a remote location a ways from the Capital, Night Raid has returned home and everyone's starting to get settled in. Najenda throws on her coat while heading to the door and saying, "Our spies are investigating the Capital for the latest information. Until we receive a full report from them, don't leave the hideout." Mine and Tatsumi sit together on the couch, Leone sits in a chair with her feet on the table and Minazuki stands off to the side with his back leaning against the door frame. Najenda leaves without saying another word about where she's going or what else they should do, slightly slamming the door behind her. "If that's how it is, then all I can do is drink to recharge from the tiring trip.", Leone says as lays back in the chair as if she's about to go to sleep. "I'm pretty sure you could do something more productive than that, Leone.", Mine says, scolding her for being so lazy. "She's right, you could be training or something. You never know what else the Empire might throw at us.", Tatsumi adds with a slight smile. Leone just waves her off, saying, "Why don't you go play lovebirds somewhere else?" "W-what!?", Mine shouts in a slight rage. "It must be nice to be so young and in love, huh? The way you two are always supporting each other is kind of sickening.", Leone says as she continues trying to get comfortable in the chair. "Ohoho, I get it. You're jealous, aren't you, Leone?", Mine says mockingly. Leone just rolls her eyes and says, "Whatever, half pint." "Yeah, I bet your all bothered by watching Tatsumi and I holding hands. Why don't you go have Minazuki hold you or something!?", Mine says trying to find the right buttons to push. Leone continues to ignore her and Mine gets an idea. "Heey, since Minazuki's a God now, does that mean that he's in a whole other league? Like, you won't even interest him in the slightest now? That probably sucks, doesn't it?", Mine continues to mock before Tatsumi covers her mouth and says, "Mine, that's just rude. You should stop." Leone just grinds her teeth before getting up and walking over to Minazuki, stomping with every step she takes. Minazuki is a bit concerned and thinks, "Did she really get that worked up about that? I guess I have to defuse this bomb now..." Before he can say anything however, she grabs his face and kisses him, much to everyone's surprise. "S-sis!?", Tatsumi shouts in disbelief. Mine tries to say something, but it's muffled by Tatsumi's hand. Minazuki isn't sure what to do and without even realizing it, he holds her in his arms as she kisses him. As their kiss ends and Minazuki looks up at her with a slightly red face, she just smirks. "Nope, it's still there. I'm certain of it.", Leone says as she heads back to her seat and goes to drink her jug of alcohol. "It?", Minazuki asks with a worried look on his face. "Yeah, you don't remember? I marked you with my spit a while back when we kissed. You're mine, partner~", she replies with a wink. Tatsumi stops to think about it and says, "Now that you mention it, Chelsea did say something about you two sleeping together...", before Mine slaps his hand away from her mouth. She gets right up in his face and asks, "And you didn't tell me about this!? I thought we were supposed to be a team, Tatsumi!! A TEAM!!!" "I'm sorry! It was forever ago, so I didn't know how to bring it up! Besides, you always get mad at me when I bring up other girls!!", Tatsumi replies defensively. Minazuki just walks over to the love seat across from the arguing couple and sits down with a thud, not saying a word about the predicament. Tatsumi and Mine stop their argument to look over at him, and they see he has a blank look on his face. "Minazuki...Are you..alright..?", Tatsumi asks in a slightly worried tone. He just nods, not really knowing the right answer. Leone gets up, her drink still in her hand, before laying down with her head in his lap as she looks up at him. She just smiles before saying, "Looks like you're stuck with me, huh, partner?" "And you're stuck with me.", he replies with a slight smile after hearing what she said. She quickly sits up and snuggles with him before saying, "And you though just because he became a God he'd be out of my league. I've had my eyes on him since he joined, so I made sure I wouldn't lose him to any of you." Mine just grumbles to herself before Tatsumi pulls her close and says, "We're happy for ya, Sis! You too, Minazuki!" He looks down at Mine with his usual smile, causing her to blush before forcing herself to say, "Y-yeah, we're really happy for you two..." Leone snickers at them before saying, "You guys, you're making it sound like we're getting married or something. We're basically messing around, kind of like you two, except we're a bit older, right partner?" "Actually, now that I think about it, I think I'm about Tatsumi's age, if not just a tad bit older. I probably shouldn't tell her that, though. She'll get mad.", he thinks to himself. "Just nod, she'll probably be happy with just that.", Quake suggests with a sigh. Minazuki nods like he said he should and Leone smiles before wrapping him in a hug, almost spilling her drink in the process.
