Chapter Thirty One: The Generals' Strife

Late at night, and Wave is sleeping soundly in his bed before the sound of the front door opening and closing wakes him up. He rushes out of bed thinking, "Damn it! Did they leave on a mission without me again!?!" But after rushing out of his room in his boxers into the greeting room, he doesn't see Run or Kurome, but it's General Esdeath! "G-General!", he says nervously as he salutes her, forgetting he's wearing nothing but just boxers. "Wave...", Esdeath replies with a worried look as she notices his, situation. "Wave, we have a dress code for a reason. Please be sure to follow it.", Esdeath says with a sigh, causing Wave to rush back into his room to get dressed. She stands outside his door as he asks, "What brings you back so early? Did you already defeat the western army?" He can sense her murderous intent flare up before she says, "That ignorant pig, he said I wasn't NEEDED on the battlefield. And that because I was a woman I should return to the Capital. So I took the chance and returned home." "I see. Well it's great to have you back, General!", Wave says as he opens the door and she sees him in his usual uniform. "It's good to be back. Now, let's wake the others. I'd like to see how things have been since I've left.", Esdeath replies before heading down the hall to Run's room. She opens the door without even knocking and as she looks inside, there isn't there at all. "Perhaps Run went for a stroll?", Esdeath thinks before leaving the door wide open and heading over to Kurome's room. She knocks this time, to be sure Wave doesn't see something he shouldn't, and says, "Kurome, it's me, General Esdeath. Are you decent?" There isn't an answer and she shouts, "I'm coming in, cover yourself if you must!", before opening the door to see Kurome isn't there either. "Strange, nobody but you seems to be here, Wave. Did the assassination squad need Kurome for a mission or something?", Esdeath says as she turns to Wave for answers. Wave begins to panic and says, "Man, they were here when I went to sleep! Where'd they go!? This isn't funny, Kurome!!!"

They suddenly hear the front door open and gently shut. Then they hear Run whisper, "Now, let's hope we didn't wake Wave. In the morning, it'll be like nothing ever happened. He'll be none the wiser." "Oh will he now?", Esdeath asks as she walks into the room with her arms crossed. She sees Run is badly hurt and Kurome is knocked unconscious on his shoulder. "What the hell happened, Run!?", Esdeath shouts as she lifts Kurome off his shoulder and carries her in her arms. "We...We went after Wild Hunt. We only fought three of them, but we came out on top in the end....", Run explains before almost falling over in pain, but he grabs the nearby table for support, keeping himself from falling over completely. "You went after Wild Hunt!? Are you crazy!?! What were you-", Wave begins to shout before Run looks up at him and he notices the change in his eyes. "Run...What happened to you?", Wave asks nervously. Run just smiles before lifting himself up and saying, "I'm fine, there's no need to worry." "He asked you a question, Ran. I'd like to hear the answer. Now.", Esdeath says in a stern ordering tone. Run pulls out a chair and sits down, trying to rest a little after what he's been through, before saying, "He was there..." "He?", Wave asks before seeing the look Run is giving Esdeath. "Minazuki.", Esdeath says as she grinds her teeth in anger. "He did this to you!? That bastard! I'll personally butcher that man for using my subordinates as punching bags!!", Esdeath shouts in her rage. "No, he didn't attack us.", Run says, causing Wave's and Esdeath's eyes to widen. "Then, he...", Wave begins to say before Run says, "He actually helped us kill Enshin and Cosmina, not to mention pinning down Champ so I could finish him off." "Why would he help the Jaegers? He's a member of the Revolutionary Army, isn't he!?", Wave shouts in disbelief as he turns to Esdeath for answers. "It's possible that Wild Hunt has found themselves on Night Raid's hit list. Then, if he protected you, how did you both end up in such a state?", Esdeath says as she looks down at Kurome. "Minazuki simply knocked Kurome unconscious for trying to fight him. He didn't seem too interested in fighting either of us as we are now. As for me, well, he called whatever this is going on with my body, melding.", Run explains before wincing in pain. "Melding?", Esdeath asks with a curious look before feeling Kurome squirming in her arms. She looks down to see Kurome's starting to wake up and says, "She's waking up! Kurome, are you alright!?" Kurome just opens her eyes and asks, "General? What are you doing here?" She suddenly remembers something and shouts, "Minazuki!", before quickly looking around for her target. "He's gone, Kurome. He knocked you unconscious in the blink of an eye. I couldn't even keep track of him with these new senses of mine.", Run says in a slightly saddened tone. "New senses?", Kurome asks with a glance as she tries to move, but Esdeath won't let her. "It seems, even though this melding process has just started, I've already begun to change significantly. My sight is now so good I can see things from miles away as if they were right in front of my face. And at times it feels like time slows down around me as I watch things move by me in slow motion. Minazuki, he started this, but he said that I'd have to finish my melding with Akatsu.", Run explains with a smile. "Akatsu? Melding? What the hell is going on!?", Wave shouts in frustration causing Run to laugh a little. "Yes, he does that a lot.", Run says out of nowhere. "Run... who are you talking to?", Kurome asks in a worried tone. "Akatsu, the soul inside my Imperial Arm. It seems as if she is one of the six Gods that formed the world we live on.", Run explains with a smile still on his face. Esdeath glares at him and asks, "Where is your Imperial Arm, Run?" He points to his back and says, "It's right here, though, I don't think I can get it off anymore." Wave moves over to look at it and is frightened when he sees the disks have fused to his body, going straight through his flesh and all the way down to his bones it seems. "R-Run! It's-", he begins to shout in a panic before Run calmly says, "Yeah, I can feel it Wave. That's part of the process, don't worry." "I see, so they're a part of you then?", Esdeath asks calmly. Run nods and says, "I believe so. But, I feel so tired.... I think I...need to lay down for a while...." He slowly lays his arms down on the table before peacefully falling asleep with his head laying on his arms. Esdeath lets Kurome down and Wave goes to wake Ran, but Esdeath stops him. "Leave him be for now. He needs his rest.", she whispers before helping Kurome walk over to her room and get ready for bed. "Ran....Don't die on me...", Wave thinks to himself before leaving Ran to his sleep.
