Chapter Thirty Five: Salvation

It's roughly noon and the Emperor and Honest are having lunch together as they usually do. The Emperor is enjoying a nice healthy salad while his Prime Minister is enjoying a large plate with a variety of different meats on it. "I've noticed Hitzugaea has been going to Shisuikan every now and then. He certainly doing a lot.", the Emperor says before taking a bite from his salad. "Yes, after General Budo disappeared, he took over his Imperial Guard and stationed half of them down in Shisuikan to help fortify their defenses. He's doing a fine job.", Honest replies as he takes a large bite out of one of the many steaks on his plate. "I know these rebels have the momentum at the moment, but I just want to crush them so badly to get this all over with.", the Emperor says in a slightly twisted tone. "Yes, I share your pain, your Majesty, but we must be patient. Clashing head on with such a force with that much momentum is not in our best interest at the moment.", Honest replies as he finishes the rest of his steak in one bite. The Emperor puts his knife and fork down for a moment before saying, "And we can't reinforce Shisuikan any further without risking our own security getting too thin... This Revolutionary Army is quite the thorn in our side...", in a slightly worried tone. "Your Majesty, please, do not worry. We might have lost General Budo, but we still have General Esdeath and Great General Hitzugaea after all. Those two have inspired their troops beyond any of my expectations. With those two on our side, the Revolutionary Army doesn't stand a sliver of a chance!", Honest says causing the boy to smile. "My perfect timing in calling back Hitzugaea gave us quite the upper hand. But if he had followed his orders and worked along side Esdeath like we planned, they would have easily eradicated the Western Army and brought their entire armies back. But I guess I underestimated his distaste for women on the battlefield...", Honest thinks to himself in a slightly irritated tone. "Ah, your Majesty, that reminds me... How did your night go with the woman I showed you?", Honest asks with a smile across his face. "Oh, her? She was nice, and quite beautiful at that, but she really wasn't my type...", the boy replies sheepishly. "Ah, I see. My apologizes your Majesty. I thought she would have been perfect for you. She was quite beautiful.", Honest says with a disheartened look on his face. "This boy, he hasn't bedded a single woman I've brought him...! He keeps saying they aren't his type, but I keep bringing him the most beautiful woman from across the Empire! They have perfect figures in every way and are more than willing to do anything he pleases, yet he still doesn't seem to like them!", Honest thinks to himself as he grinds his teeth slightly. "Speaking of associates, where's Jasper? He's usually watching over you, even when we have meals like this one, isn't he? Or is he doing that invisibility trick again?", the Emperor asks as he picks up his fork and knife and returns to eating his food. "Ah, I sent him out to deal with a problem we might have, do not worry.", Honest replies with a pure smile to the boy.

In the middle of a street in the Capital, a large sign has been posted for all to see. Two of the Revolutionary Army's spies see the sign and they're both frightened by what they see. "The public execution of the insurgent, Tatsumi and the destruction of Incursio, the symbol of Night Raid...!?", one of them whispers as they read the sign. "This is terrible. And worse yet, a rescue is completely off the table! According to the notice, the executioners are...", the other spy begins to whisper before the first one says, "General Esdeath and Great General Hitzugaea...Two of the Three Elemental Generals..." "This news probably already reached Night Raid too... I hope they don't try anything..! This is without a doubt a death sentence for anyone who gets in these Generals' ways.", the other spy whispers in a worried tone.

Off in the forest, Mine is running as fast as she can toward the Capital with Pumpkin on her back. "Is it a trap? Does that really matter!? Just wait for me, Tatsumi! I'm coming!! I'll save you no matter what it take!!!", Mine thinks as she continues to rush toward the Capital. She suddenly comes to a screeching hault when she sees the rest of Night Raid standing in her way. Sheele, Chelsea, Akame, Leone, Minazuki, Najenda, Lubbock, Susanoo, and even Budo are standing there. "Hey, out for a midnight stroll I see.", Leone says to her with grin on her face. Najenda pulls a piece of paper out of her shirt and reads it off saying, "I'm resigning from Night Raid..?" She then folds the paper up with two fingers, closing the note, before saying, "To think that you'd actually leave such a note like this and try to charge into the Capital all by yourself... How very heroic of you, Mine." "You can't stop me! I'm going, and I'll save Tatsumi no matter what it takes!!!", Mine shouts. "Mine, do you remember what you said when Tatsumi was captured the first time? Not to say something stupid like we're going to rescue him, right?", Akame says with a more serious look on her face. "Looks like you're dumber than I thought you were, Mine~", Chelsea says mockingly to her. "GRRRR.. SHU-SHUT UP!! I'M STILL GOING!!!", Mine shouts in frustration. "I'll save him, I know I will. No matter what, I'll bring Tatsumi back!", Mine continues as her face turns a slight pink. "Mine..", Sheele says with a slight smile. "Well, looks like you've fallen for him harder than I thought.", Leone notes. "He's lucky to have someone like you, Mine.", Akame adds. "Lucky bastard, basically being one girl away from a harem...", Lubbock mutters to himself. "Then move out of my way! I'm going!!", Mine shouts in embarrassment from the complements she just received. "We're not just going to let you walk into a trap by yourself.", Minazuki says with a slight grin on his face. "Correct, that won't do at all. A precious talent and Imperial Arm can't be thrown into a death trap like this without taking some precautions first.", Najenda adds as she rips the note in two. "That's why we're going with you!", Akame finishes sternly as she steps forward to Mine. "Wha..what?", Mine asks in disbelief. "Well, we can't just let Tatsumi die, right? He's a precious resource as well, and a friend.", Susanoo says with a smile. "The Boss gave it the okay, too. Besides, if we let Tatsumi get executed, you'd be all depressed and that'd be hard to work with.", Leone says, getting one more jab in on her in the process. "If we stop the execution, we can damage the moral of the Empire while also announcing General Budo's joining of the Revolutionary Army.", Minazuki says as he points to Budo, who nod in response. "For this plan to succeed, we need to remain on alert. We'll have possibly two Gods to deal with on top of countless enemy soldiers. This will require a resolve far greater than anything you've had before.", Najenda says as she lights herself a cigarette. "That's right, I'm not on a suicide mission! This is a rescue mission!! And I know just the plan for it!!!", Mine says inspirationally. "I understand. Your resolve is accepted.", Najenda says before they move out.
