"You're not serious, are you?"

I'm staring between Fate and T with wide eyes and a slack jaw. The words took a few moments to settle into my mind, which has been torn apart with mourning, having to grow up without my family. And now Fate wants to repair that? What am I thinking, Fate would never do something like that.

"You don't want us to be?" T questions, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Obviously she wants us to be, T," Fate mutters, drawing his dark, expectant gaze back to me. "She just finds it hard to believe."

I couldn't imagine why...

"I swear, if you're joking about this..." I say.

I'm still unable to fully comprehend the meaning of this. That is, if Fate is telling the truth. I mean, seeing my father again, after spending my entire life without him? I had fully accepted life without him, even if it was a hard pill to swallow. Now, Fate presents this idea on a golden platter in front of me...and I'm supposed to believe it?

"We aren't," Fate says quickly. He seems genuine; or he's great at acting. "We wouldn't do that to you."

"I can't trust either of you," I remind him, scanning my eyes between both Fate and T. I especially don't trust T, who has done nothing to gain that. But Fate. A part of me wants to believe he would have the heart to do something like this. The other has to be reminded that he took me against my will in the first place.

"I think you should leave for a moment my love. She has attitude," I hear T murmur in Faye's ear from behind me.

I'm not sure what spurred me to, but I turned and slapped him across the face.

I can everyone gasp. Well, I heard Faye gasp, piercing through the ringing in my ears. That was quite a slap, that turned T's head to the side. All my pent up frustration and anger was channeled into that.

There's no way I'm about to sit and listen to everyone's reactions. I turn, and I run out the kitchen, heading toward the front door for my best escape.

"Zayla!" I hear from behind me. "Hey, Zayla, come back."

"Get away from me," I grumble under my breath.

I'm not even sure why I'm so mad. It's not at T's comment. It's at the idea that I'm being messed with, like some kind of practical joke for a couple of bored immortals. Even if it's true, it seems to good to be true.
