When Kaytrin woke up, it was dark.
She tried to sit up, but her head throbbed where London had hit her in the head with the door. Piper was by her side, like a true friend.
"Where am I?" Kaytrin asked.
"In the infirmary," said Piper.
"How are you feeling?" Someone said. Kaytrin turned and Chiron, Leo, Jason, Percy, and Annabeth were crowded into the infirmary.
"My head hurts a little. Stupid London and the door."
"London is having trouble walking," Jason said.
"What?"
"He keeps tripping over everything," Percy said with a grin. "Your curse worked well. It is amazing."
"London has lost most of his admirers," Annabeth added.
"Wait, back up a bit. My curse? How did I curse London?"
"You took all of London's good luck away," Chiron said. "Very impressive, I haven't seen someone take someone else's luck away in awhile, or give someone luck in a while. Last time was when your creator gave luck to your parents, Kaytrin."
"Creator?" Percy asked.
Chiron looked at Kaytrin like do you want me to explain, or you?
Kaytrin sighed.
"Might as well get this over with," she thought.
"My mom told me this: The reason why I have two mortal parents is because they both adopted me, basically. Tyche created me, and gave me to my parents."
"So you're not a demigod?" Leo asked, after he finished a brief coughing fit.
"I am. She made me able to grow up and die one day, and she made me half god and half human, just like you are, Leo."
Jason frowned. "Someone is listening to our conversation." He opened the door, and London scrambled away.
"S-sorry."
"Why are you here?" Kaytrin asked, glowing a faint scarlet red.
"I wanted to make sure you were okay."
"Tell me the real reason. I can sense when you are lying."
"I wanted to know how I could get my luck back," London said glumly.
"You won't ever if you keep up that act. Don't eavesdrop. If you clean up your act and your attitude and keep it the way I want it, I will consider giving you back your good luck. But it is slowly disappearing as I use it up, so do it fast. Goodbye."
Jason shut the door, and Annabeth asked, "Are you really using up his luck?"
Kaytrin shouted, "I think I will use your luck up quick by healing my head, and taking away Leo's cough."
Scampering sounds were heard, and then they resided into the distance.
"No, I just get more lucky," Kaytrin said to group crowded around her. "Sometimes I can do something using the good luck, like healing a cut, but then it would take awhile to regain my luck. There are actually two kinds of luck, good and bad. Good is the best kind to use on yourself, and bad is the best kind to use on other people."
"Oh. I didn't know that," Annabeth murmured, taking note of that detail like any child of Athena would.
