When their Pegasi's hooves touched down to the ground, a tremendous shudder rocked the pavement.
"Uh, this will probably be very dangerous," London said as he slipped off of his Pegasus. "Thanks for the ride, we will whistle when we need you," he told the three flying horses.
They leapt into the air, and were gone within seconds. They probably didn't like the weird aura coming from the building in front of the three demigods.
"Well, let's get going," Sam said.
They stepped into the building and immediately noticed the huge tents set up inside the lobby. Each was draped with velvet blankets and silver moons and stars hung around the tents.
"Oh," Sam said when she peeked inside a tent. "It's like a fortune telling tent. We are at a fortune teller's convention."
"That would explain the people all dressed like gypsies," London said.
"Kaytrin, you should try talking to them. You would be the best out of any of us," Sam said.
"Why would I be the best? London is the nicest."
"Because your mom is the goddess of fortune, of course!"
Kaytrin frowned, but walked up to a tent. Inside was a woman with several beaded necklaces and baggy clothing on.
"How may I help you, my dear?" The woman asked.
"Auntie Velma?!" Kaytrin asked.
"Is that who you see? Interesting," the lady said.
"What? Whoa," Sam said from right behind Kaytrin. She was staring at the gypsy lady.
"My dear Sam, who do you see?" The lady asked Sam.
"M- Melissa. I hated you."
"But did she always tell the truth?"
"Yes. You—she couldn't tell a lie."
"Wait, truth... you are Alethia?" Kaytrin asked.
"Yes! Good, good. You found me. London, what do you see?"
"A goddess. I assume that that is how you normally look?"
"Oh, you poor boy. Yes, this is how I normally look to immortals."
"Wait," Kaytrin said again. "Either you are immortal, or nobody has always told you the truth," she said to London.
"I have heard a lie from everyone," London said miserably. "I just want to know that at least one human is always truthful. I have always wanted to my whole life."
"Oh," Kaytrin said. She felt a little bit sad for him. He wasn't turning out to be the bratty, annoying kid who she thought he was.
"I am not human, but I always tell the truth. I know that you three have a hard journey in front of you. One of you will experience terrible pain from losing something necessary. But that same person will get another one, and everything may turn out okay in the end for that person."
"May? What does that mean? And who is the person that will experience terrible pain?" Sam said.
"I cannot tell you anything more, except how to find the cornucopia you seek." The goddess turned to London. "Hungerford Street. Go there, rest, and continue looking for it at the fountain." Then the air shimmered, and she disappeared.
"London, what did she mean?" Sam asked.
"Let's go. We are going to pay a visit to my mom."
