Adelane kept looking out of the window of her small room.
Her nose was pressed on the cold glass and her green eyes kept following the boys and girls of the Dauntless faction who were running widly on the streets.
Every day around 12 p.m. the Dauntless that were supposed to watch the streets near her house would run back to take the trains to get back home.Their home.
Adelane never really called her house, home. Not really after her brother had left.Home was a warm smile,a plate of food and happy faces. When she was home all she would get were broken glasses and the smell of smoke and alcohol.
Since her brother left for Dauntless she would sit everyday in front of her window in hope to get a glimpse of him running free.

She never felt hate towards her brother after he left.Tobias deserved to be free as much a her and Dauntless would fit him perfectly. It would fit both of them perfectly.

Today was the day she would take her apptitude test. Not that she cared.Whatever the results Adelane was already in Dauntless. She would often catch herself looking at her reflection in the mirror trying to imagine how she would look if she was Dauntless.
She was incredibly small and quite thin but not skinny. She had long dark brown hair and green eyes. The old lady that lived beside them always said she was a pretty lady and it was a shame she didn't go out too much.
That was indeed true.Adelane never left her house. It wasn't like she didn't want to.Marcus wouldn't let her go out much.

She took a look at herself in the small mirror and fixed her dark grey dress that was too small for her and reached her knees.
A look at the clock above her bed told her it was time to leave.
Good thing Marcus wasn't home.

One more day,she told herself. One more day and she would be free.

Adelane walked down the stairs and out of the house. One of the rare times she was out.
She took a deep breath and looked around her.Everything was peaceful.
She started walking towards the center when a small voice stopped her.

"Hey!Adelane?"
She turned only to see a girl her age joging towards her.
"Hey,Beatrice right?" she said giving her a warm smile.

Beatrice was one of the few people that would talk to Adelane, once in a while.

"You are going for your apptitude Test?" she asked once they were walking on a normal pase.

Adelane nodded happily."Are you nervous?" she asked.

Beatrice nodded. "Who isn't right?"

Adelane said nothing. She guessed that the fact she had already chosen her faction made her calm.

They reached their destination and Adelane walked first inside.
The girl that was assisted to her made her sit on a big chair.
While she was preparing her Adelane took the time to observe her.She had shoulder length dark brown hair that matched her eyes.
When she turned she saw a big tattoo that decorated her back.

"I will inject you with this serum. It will show how you react to certain situations. The way you do it will determine your ideal faction."

Adelane nodded and waited for the serum to kick in while sitting perfectly calm.

What seemed like a few seconds later Adelane realized she was alone in the room. The girl Tori had disappeared and in a way more mirrors were added to the room.

Adelane got up and took a look around her.

A bark.

She turned her back only to see a small girl smiling at her.Adelane smilled back.
The little girl soon started changing and became a dog.A wild, angry dog.
It launched at her and Adelane took a step back.
Looking at her right she saw a knife lying on the floor.
She grabbed it and waved it at the dog without hitting it.
The animal dissapeared again and Adelane now saw the little girl once again only this time a strict looking man pointed at her demanding for Adelane to kill her.
The little girl started crying and Adelane launched at the man with the knife in her hand and sliced his hand making him wince in pain.

The man and the girl dissapeared again and Adelane was sitting on the big chair.
She looked up only to see Tori looking back scared.
"Is there something wrong?" she asked.

Tori shook her head and came closer to her.
"What faction?"she whispered.

Adelane looked at her puzzled "What..?"

"What faction will you choose?" she asked again.

Adelane looked taken back."Dauntless."she said with confident. It was her choice for years after all.

Tori shook her head and looked even more frightened.
"No.You have to stay away from both Dauntless and Erudite.Choose Amity..you will be safe there."

Adelane frowned. She never thought of Amity but she wouldn't just change her choice like that.
"Why?"she demanded angrily now."My brother Tobias is in Dauntless.I need to find him.I need to be with him."

"Your results. They are inconclusive..you are Divergent,do you know what that means?"Tori said in a more gentle voice.

Adelane shook her head.

"It means you don't belong in only one faction. And they don't want that Adelane. They want to control you and they won't be able.Erudite and Dauntless are the first to find you and kill you.Hell you would be even more safe in Erudite than Dauntless."She continued.

"But why Dauntless?"she asked.

"Eric. He is a leader there.Former Erudite member.Look I don't know much but I know he's dangerous and I know if he finds out he will kill you."

Adelane looked at Tori. This wasn't fair. She had been waiting for years for this.

"You need to leave now and please."Tori said "Keep yourself safe."

Adelane said nothing back.Probably because she didn't know what to say.
She walked out and didn't even bother to say goodbye to Beatrice.

She walked fast. She needed to get back home. But she also didn't want to see Marcus.
When she got in she immediately realized he wad there.
She could smell the familiar smell of alcohol in the air that made her feel even more bad.

She walked straight to her room ignoring his voice calling her.
He was probably too tired to bother and hit her or do anything else so she managed to have some quiet to think.

All she could think was Tobias. Her Tobias who always swore to protect her and stay with her had chosen the most dangerous faction. And she.She was Divergent.
Why?Why couldn't her tests just be Dauntless?

She fell tears coming from her eyes and she silently started to sob.
Until she fell asleep and the nightmares came.
She knew for sure she would escape this hell.
