Chapter 12

"Let me take you out on a date tonight." Keith looked down at me as we were in class.

"What?" I knitted my eyebrows together.

"We have been going out for about a week now and I realized I haven't taken you out on a proper date yet." He played with a strand of my hair.

I couldn't help the smile that lifted onto my face, "What were you thinking?"

"I don't know.. Movie, restaurant-" I quickly cut him off.

"You need to take me to see the Greatest Showman! I have been dying to see that movie." I'm practically bouncing in my seat and a smirk lifted onto his lips.

"Then I will take you to see the Greatest Showman. I'll pick you up at 6." He kissed my hair.

"Oh hell nah. My girl is not going out on her first date with her dream guy.. wearing that." Blaze shook her head in disgust.

"Hey I thought I actually looked cute" I huffed.

"You need a wardrobe upgrade." Was all she said before pulling out a white crop top with a red plaid cardigan and jean shorts.

"Go try this on and meet me back in here so I can do your hair and make up.

"We are only going to the movies." I rolled my eyes.

"I know but this is your guys first date! So you need the perfect movie outfit." Blaze chirped.

I quickly put on her outfit and she then styled my hair to look curly/wavy.

"We done here? You have been inspecting me for the past 10 minutes." I crossed my arms.

"You look perfect!" Blaze then dragged me downstairs when we heard the doorbell ring.

"Rachel who is that?" My mother came walking down the stairs.

Shit, I forgot she was home.

"This is Keith... my boyfriend." I said quietly when Keith walked in.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Ms. Stafford." Keith held up is hand to shake hers in which she was hesitant to shake.

"Rachel may I have a word with you?" My mom narrowed her eyes at me and dragged me towards the kitchen.

"What?" I popped a eyebrow up.

"Out of all the boys, why him?" My mother snapped.

"He is a nice guy and I like him and not even you can change that." I said with anger dripping into my tone.

"Boys like him only cause trouble. Once you realize I'm right, you will come running up to me in tears because he broke your heart." Were her final words before exiting the kitchen.

I angrily walked back to Blaze and Keith who were waiting for me.

"Are you ok?" Keith asked and I nodded my head yes.

"I want her back no later then 10. Understood?" Blaze glared at Keith and he rolled his eyes but nodded nonetheless.

Once we got in his car Keith broke the awkward silence.

"So are you going to tell me what really happened?" Keith sighed.

"My mom lives for perfection. She hates flaws.. especially with me. She doesn't think your good enough for me and she wants someone better. She constantly judges people off of their weight, beliefs, height, money, and so on." I shrugged.

He just nodded his head without saying anything. That silence was all I need.

"So ready to see this movie that you have been 'dying' to see?" Keith used air quotes.
