His hand was extended towards me, a smile on his face, but his eyes were not so gleeful.

"I am sorry," I said then, "but I am awfully tired."

Laito furrowed his brows for a second, as if confused by my declining the invitation. He quickly composed himself.

"Well then, may I keep you company here, my Lady?" he asked.

"You may," I replied, motioning to a seat next to me.

Laito sat down next to me and when I glanced at him sideways I realized his eyes were fixed on some point on the dancing crowd. Well, not some point, but someone. There was a tall woman, with long purple hair, in a quite tight gown, quite inappropriate if you asked me. She was surrounded by boys that seemed slightly older than me and were in elegant apparel, offering her different drinks and appetizers. Waiter servants, they seemed.

Laito looked at her with a sad shadow over his eyes. I wanted to ask who she was, but thought it rude.

"She is my Mother," Laito stated suddenly, as if being able to read my thoughts. "Her name is Cordelia, she is one the brides of Karl Heinz."

"One of? Does he partake in multiple lovers?" I asked now, curiosity getting the best out of me.

"Yes. He has three brides, the mothers of all of my brothers. The is another one at the party, Beatrix, the mother of Shu and and Reiji, she was the first bride. Then came Cordelia, my Mother, who also gave birth to both of my siblings. Lastly, there is Christa, Subaru's mother. She is not here today."

I processed all of this in my mind. It was so odd that he was telling me these things.

"Why are you telling me this?" I asked.

He then answered, "You should have at least some knowledge of who you are up against."

"Against?" I was perplexed.

"Whoever do you think my Father is?" he asked in a mocking manner.

He was right. I had forgotten about my weariness. I was still very much uncomfortable in this situation, Karl seeming a very menacing Vampire, very untrustworthy. Still my Father thought it was convenient so he was thrilled with the opportunity. I did not know still what kind of person Karl was, but my instincts told me I should stay away. And besides that, there were the rest of the people in this room. Other than the young boys I had met, everyone had a fake air to them. Smiles full of lies, greedy eyes. It was clear that I was in a room full of vampires and humans with no good intentions.

However, Laito had said 'against' referring to his own siblings and mother and aunts. I had met Reiji already, and he seemed nice. Should I have been weary of him? Should I be careful with Laito too?

But then I looked at Laito again, and his eyes were still fixed on Cordelia, longingly. He seemed so... lonely, so sad.

"No," I thought to myself. "Something tells me Reiji and him can be trusted".

I was still in thought when a voice pulled me out of my mind.

"Laito, who is the doll?" said a somewhat dull voice.

I then realized that a person was standing right in front of me. He was also a boy of around my age, with short purple hair, the same as Cordelia's. His eyes were light, however, with big dark tones within them, as if he had not slept for days. What was really odd, however, was the fact that he was holding a teddy bear with an eye patch, his arms strongly around the bear.

"Actually," Laito said, "I do not know her name. She was dancing with Father earlier."

"Doll, who are you?" the purple haired asked, now turning to me.

I was about to tell them my name, but the boy beat me to it.

"My name is Kanato, I am Laito's brother. Do you want to play with Teddy and I?" Kanato asked.

So he was another one of Karl's sons, and his hair color said he was the child of Cordelia.

"I am sorry, but I do not know how to play," I replied. "I do not play much at home, much less with other people."

At this Kanto started to get somewhat angry. To be honest, I actually wanted to play. I had never had the chance to really play with children my age after I was 'discovered', but I had always longed for it, so I said to Kanato:

"If you teach me, I will play with Teddy and you."

At this Kanato got brighter. He grabbed my hand and took me out through an open door to a massive garden. I did not even have the time to be amazed by the grandness and beauty of the garden, full of flowers, before Kanato took me inside a nearby forest to the right.

"We can play house now," he beamed. "You can be Teddy and I's sister."

"Alright," I said.

I was an only child, so I did not know how siblings interacted with one another, but I could try for the game.

"I will be the father, then," said a voice from the forest. It was Laito, who had followed us from the ball.

"I did not invite you to play, Laito!" Kanato said angrily.

"Oh please! It will be more fun that way!" Laito exclaimed.

Both of the boys then looked at me, as if I had a say in it, and got to decide.

"It... could be more fun," I observed. "People say the more the merrier."

"Fine," mumbled Kanato.

And so, we all played house. It was a strange game, in which you pretended to be a family, and all you did was act like a family. What was stranger is that we were all happy in this family, which is not something I was really used to. It was so nice and fun. We were supposed to be in a picnic in a forest near our house and Laito, our Father, had forgotten to actually bring the food.

"I don't understand," I said then. "Don't you vampires have blood only?"

"We can have regular food as well," Laito laughed, as if it were obvious. "and besides, it is a game, it does not need to follow any reality."

"I see," I said. "Then... FATHER HOW COULD YOU FORGET THE FOOD YOU HAD ONE JOB," I yelled at him.

Laito was very surprised by my outburst and then smiled.

"I would not have forgotten if it were not for Kanato there, insisting that we should hurry up," said Laito.

"You were taking so long! Teddy was getting bored!" Kanato retorted, pretending to be angry as well.

"Oh poor Teddy," said I. "You know he gets hungry really fast! Good luck we are in a forest, we can look for berries or something like that and have water from the stream that we crossed a bit ago."

Soon enough, all of us were laughing to our heart's content because Laito had fallen into the stream trying to get the water and Kanato, Teddy and I were trying to get him out with a long stick, which broke in a second. We were all so happy, playing like that.

"You people are so loud," said a male voice from the forest. I stopped in my tracks, a bit scared I would get scolded, but Laito and Kanato kept on laughing for a bit.

"Thought you would never come out from behind that tree," said Laito.

A boy then came to us, and it was none other than Ayato.
