"Ayame, it seems you still do not know how to behave in front of a prince, I expect you to bow," Ayato stated.

"So the doll's name is Ayame," Kanato said. "Like the flower."

"It is," said I.

"Will you play?" Laito asked Ayato.

Ayato hesitated for a bit. "No," he said finally, "of course not. It is not likely of a prince."

"Prince of what?" Laito laughed. "I know I was born first and you last which in Japanese tradition means you are the eldest, but neither you, nor Kanato, nor I are princes. At the very least Shu would be, since he is the oldest."

I interrupted this with a question.

"Born first and last? What is that supposed to mean?"

"We are triplets," Kanato answered. "Did you not know?"

"Not at all," I replied. "That is so interesting."

The three of them looked at me oddly now. Even Teddy seemed to think I was strange. I got nervous all of a sudden, but then did something which surprised them even more.

I bowed to Ayato.

"What are you doing?" Laito asked now.

"Father," I replied. "You must bow to the Dark Prince. Otherwise he might harm us."

Laito looked at me confused, but Kanato caught up first. He and Teddy bowed to Ayato.

"Father, come on," Kanato whispered. "He will take one of us if you do not show respect."

A brief moment passed.

"I will never bow to the likes of a narcissistic condescending prince," Laito caught up finally. "And I will never let you take my children," he declared to Ayato.

"Your... what?" Ayato seemed puzzled, until he finally understood. He then smiled, but had pretend angry eyes on. "Ah, yes!! You have displeased the great ore-sama, Dark Prince of the four realms! I will now take one of your children with me!!!" he said. "TO EAT!!!!" he added.

At that Kanato, Laito and I erupted in laughter, but suddenly I stopped because I felt a hand on my own, and saw that it was Ayato. Still with a smile on he pulled me towards him, lifted me off my feet, and said "SHE IS MY PRISONER NOW". The next thing I was aware of it that we were in a totally different part of the forest.

"How did we get here?" I inquired.

"I teleported, of course." Ayato crowed.

I had known some vampires had special abilities, but had never experienced such a thing first handedly.

"You are my prisoner now," Ayato repeated. "You will stay with me until they come to rescue you."

"Yes, Dark Prince", I played along. "Please do not eat me," I jested.

We kept on playing until I heard a sound at a distance.

"Father, Brothers, you came to rescue me!" I cheered.

But I was wrong, for from out of the woods came out none other than Cordelia, with an enraged face.

On a closer look, I realized Cordelia's eyes were just like Laito's, green and cat like. But these were not looking at me with the brightness of Laito's glance; these were absolutely enraged, looking at me disgustingly.

"Ayato, what are you doing with such a nuisance?" demanded Cordelia.

"Mother," Ayato timidly responded. "We were playing a game?"

"Games?" Cordelia said in a scornful manner. "You do not have time for that. You should be making acquaintances with the noble men of the Vampire society. Do you not understand what it takes to become the head of the Sakamaki Family? You must surpass your brothers!!!!"

"But Mother..." Ayato trailed off.

"I will have none of this nonsense," Cordelia declared, and then she looked at me, her eyes on fire, her pupils thin lines in a green swirl. "And above all, you were loosing your time with this scum! Your Father's new play doll, a blood bag," she muttered. She then came down to my height level and whispered to me, "he will come back to me, you are just a pastime."

She then got up, grabbed Ayato forcefully by the arm, and started walking away. Ayato could not resist much, he seemed to be in pain from her hold. They had almost disappeared into the woods when Cordelia stopped in her tracks upon hearing my voice.

"I do not know what you talk about," I said. "But your offensive manner is tasteless. I would have expected more from a noble lady as yourself."

Cordelia spun around, still hurting Ayato, whose eyes were wide open. She was beyond furious, but she contained herself.

"Big words from a 10 year old," she said. "Let us see if this manner withstands what will be thrown your way, child. I will personally make sure it will not."

She then disappeared from before me with a sinister smile together with Ayato, and I was left alone in a huge forest. To my luck, the ball was nearby, and following the music I could return to the main hall.

When I got there I saw Laito and Kanato so I went to them to ask why they had not come to rescue me in the game, but as I got closer, they turned their backs to me.

"Ayame," Laito said. "We will not be interacting with you anymore."

"What?" I asked confused. "What do you mean by that?"

"He means we cannot play with you anymore," Kanato answered.

"Why?" I asked now. "Did I do something wrong? Did I offend you? I was just playing when I yelled at you Laito!"

"I know," Laito said with a sad laugh. "Mother has prohibited us from talking with you again. I am sorry, I did have fun playing with you, but it cannot happen ever again."

They both started walking away from me now, but I grabbed Kanato by his sleeve before he was too far away, and they stopped and turned around.

My head was down, my hair covering my face.

"I understand," I said softly. "I will not inconvenience you any further. But know this," I lifted my head and truly smiled at them, "I will still regard you as my friends, regardless of your Mother."

They both widened their eyes, and seemed taken aback for a moment. Soon enough, Laito bowed and disappeared, and so did Kanato with his bear.

The rest of the night went by in a blur. I was quite sad at having already lost the first friends I had made, and I was still unaware of Karl's intentions and still weary of him. I wondered how in just one night everything had turned so gloomy. But then again, it had been this way for these past five years.

Mom found me soon after, telling me it was time to go home for the sun should be rising soon.

On the carriage home, Father rambled about who he had met and how this had been a successful night, but that we should do even better next time, Mother with her frail appearance and me with my immature and impertinent attitude towards superiors.

As he kept on talking, I looked outside through the window on my side at a rising sun, and wondered how the light shifted so much the landscape it touched even though I knew it all remained the same. I wondered what would happen next, and falling asleep I thought to myself:

"We will see next month."
