Memoires, Chapter 57

I believe it had been over sixty years already and we had not heard a word regarding Ayame when he delivered that letter.

Ayato was being as careless and selfish as he had for the past decades, doing absolutely nothing in his unpolished manners. Kanato kept very much to himself but still carried that hideous bear everywhere. Laito was the most disgusting one really, with his completely inappropriate actions, yet somehow after some decades of Ayame's disappearance he suddenly changed and decided not to comply anymore.

Subaru was always by himself or by that wretched excuse of a brother I have, sulking would be the best word to describe his behaviour.

Regarding that good for nothing of a brother of mine, he developed some strange manners after he was let out of that room, but I did not really look much into that as he was not worthy of my time. The only useful thing he did after she was gone was deliver my letter to me and not only did he take a tremendous amount of time, but I cannot even give him full credit since it was all orchestrated by her to begin with!

Such a beautiful mind, she had had. Such a beautiful way of carrying about. It truly was a shame that she was gone...

Being so that I already covered what happened with and to my person after Ayame left in previous chapters of this memoir, I will not delve into it any further. There were indeed those dark times I spoke about already, but we do not need to revisit those at the moment.

As I was saying; the letter.

It was a rainy night in which our monthly family dinner between siblings was due, and so we all gathered in the dining room. Rather oddly as he usually missed these events, Shu was present and in his usual seat, looking at the tableware before him rather emotionlessly, as was his characteristic expression for the past, say, 20 years.

As the food was presented to us, we all began to dine silently, as was custom. There were plenty of the most extravagant and exquisite dishes, but I did not really care much for the taste of these kinds of food.

It was Kanato who broke the silence.

"Ne... Teddy, it is so odd for Shu to be here, do you not think so?" he asked.

Kanato had always been like this, he always liked to call upon trouble without hesitation.

"Yes, what a delightful appearance!" added Laito, who of course would follow. These two were a terrible combination, with their seeming love for chaos.

Subaru stared at Shu with a concerned expression, which Laito decided to toy with.

"Do you not think so, Subaru?" he asked our silver haired brother.

How it disgusted me, all of their manners. Would there ever be a peaceful family dinner, I wondered.

As it was expected, Subaru's expression changed for the worse as he glared at Laito, his hand forming a fist as he grabbed on to the tablecloth. Such an impulsive boy he was, not to take the higher path under his older brother's taunts.

Ayato, I noticed, remained awfully quiet as he rested his head on his one hand and moved his food around his plate with his fork with the other, looking bored.

I decided then to condemn his manners and so spoke up for the first time in the evening.

"Ayato, do stop playing with your food," I ordered him giving him a sideways glance.

"Oh and what am I to do with it, eat it?" he asked sarcastically.

"Precisely," I told him, matter of factly. Why, what else was the food there for?
