Unlike the other realm, these woods were not thick, for in no longer than a 5-minute walk I was already out.

There were some lights in the distance, and upon closer inspection I realized it was a village. However, what caught my attention the most was the fact that there were two silhouettes moving midway from where I was standing and the village. I began walking in that direction suspecting one of the boys was Sora, since not so much time had passed for him to be able to have reached the small town... assuming he was a human. He must have been, vampires did not serve other vampires as waiters, they thought it disrespectful for the race.

Indeed, the closer I got, the clearer it was that the boy was Sora, with his orangey-blonde hair. The other silhouette I had seen belonged to another boy, roughly the same age as I was, with brown hair tied up at the back of his head. They were both running and audibly laughing and I hid behind a bush about 100 metres away.

"Edgar! Do not run so fast!" Sora shouted at his friend. He received only laughter in response.

I was very careful to be silent as I hoisted myself up to get a better view, but in doing so a small branch cracked. I looked down to see if I had injured myself, which I had not, and when I looked up, Sora was looking in my direction, still.

Edgar, I believed his name was, ran up to Sora when he saw he was not chasing him anymore, and they started taking with each other, but I could not make out what they were saying at such a distance. In a moment, they both looked in my direction, and I curled up in a ball sitting on the ground to make myself smaller, not to be seen, and to move little, not to be heard.

"Why am I even here?" I asked myself. "I should be at the ball. If Father finds out about this he will be so extremely angered... Why did I even follow that boy? How could he hear me from so far away?"

And then I heard footsteps coming closer. I hid my face between my knees. Soon enough, there was a tap on my shoulder.  I raised my head only to find the two boys looking right at me, Sora with a quite annoyed expression, Edgar surprised and with a light pink on his cheeks.

"Um... Hello again, Sora," I innocently smiled at Sora.

"Sora?" asked Edgar.

"Yes Edgar, that is my name. I thought I had told you to leave," he said gravely addressing me.

"And I did! ...For a little," I admitted. "I hid in the darkness until you were gone?"

"What is she talking about?" asked Edgar, looking at Sora. "Who is she anyway?"

"Nothing and no one. She is just a girl from the party I told you I came from." He said dismissively.

I found it impressive how he had been so educated and formal to me next to the portal and how rude he seemed right now. I got quite annoyed at this, lifting myself up from the floor and getting right in front of Sora.

"She," I said, "has a name." I then turned around and took out my hand for Edgar to shake. "Ayame, nice to meet you."

"Umm," Edgar hesitated, looking at Sora, then at me. "I am Edgar. Nice to meet you too," he said, finally shaking my hand.

"So, Edgar, what were you doing here?" I inquired, ignoring Sora completely.

"We were merely playing a game of chase," he answered sincerely. "Would you like to join us?" Edgar asked now, looking slightly hopeful.

"I..." I doubted. Did I? Last time with the triplets had been fun, but I had already decided it had been too foolish of me. I was quite certain that these were mere humans, not to be feared, but still, I should not let myself go so easily. Besides, who even were these people? Sora was supposed to be a waiter servant still he acted so disrespectful towards me now, and I had no information at all regarding Edgar. I had to be smarter than this and head back to the ball already. My world was already complicated enough to include more people and turns.
