Chapter 6: The Wish Chaser
"You let him in just like that?" tanong ni Shone na halatang hindi makapaniwala.
He sounded completely disappointed when he heard the news.
“What do you expect me to do? Shoo him away just because you told me not to go near him? C’mon Shone! I don’t know what got into you. Ano bang ginawa sayo ni Crozen?” I asked a little irritated.
“He’s not doing anything yet but-“ he answered but I cut him.
“Oh yun naman pala eh. Wala namang ginagawang masama yung tao tapos pinaghihinalaan natin. Di kaya tayo ang nagiging masama niyan?” I told him matter-of-factly.
I don’t know what brought him the idea that Crozen, my new schoolmate is a bad guy. Not because we thought Crozen saw him yesterday doesn’t mean it’s true. We might be thinking the wrong thing against him. Mahirap manghusga lang ng basta basta.
“You don’t understand Sassy.” mahinahong sabi niya.
He walked past me and he made it to the edge of my bed.
“No. If there’s someone I don’t understand here. It’s you Shone. Hindi kita maintindihan.” matigas na sagot ko.
He didn’t say anything after that kaya parang bumagal yung oras. I tried not to be really really irritated to him kaya kinalma ko yung sarili ko. I assess Shone’s expression pero wala siyang ipinapakita kahit na anong emosyon. Right. Should I be guilty now? I’m just telling the truth. I didn’t say those things earlier just to make him feel upset. I said that just to make him realize the absolute truth.
“He’s a transferee.” he said.
Napakunot-noo ako. Crozen De Vera transferred to our school Friday last week. Kaya alam ko yung pangalan niya kasi he became the new guy in Mandela High. I gave Shone a confused look.
“Ano namang kinalaman ng pagiging transferee niya sa pinaguusapan natin?” I asked.
He pressed his temples like he’s suffering from headache.
“What was the exact date when he transferred?” he asked.
Napaisip naman ako. It was just last week.
“September 23.” sagot ko.
His expression darkened when he heard my answer.
“He transferred one day after the September Equinox. It’s when the day and the night both have equal durations.” sabi niya.
I stood there feeling dumb of what I just heard. What the fudge is he talking about?
“I don’t get it. Anong kinalaman ng September Equinox na yan sa pagtransfer ni Crozen? Baka nagkataon lang at wala naman talagang meaning ang lahat ng yun.” sabi ko.
Hindi sa kinokontra ko lahat ng sinasabi ni Shone pero naman kasi, I don’t know why he’s pushing this topic to its limit. Hindi ba pwedeng magmove on na lang kami at magfocus na lang sa wish ko?
“I’m starting to believe he’s not ordinary Sassy.” Saad niya na ikinakunot noo ko.
I let out a sigh and then I walk towards him. Naupo ako ilang inches ang layo mula sa kanya dahil nga bawal niya akong mahawakan according to him. I almost felt like breaking down at any moment and having a place to sit on really helped.
