Chapter 16: Space

Three days after my secret trip to the Black Hole, things suddenly shifted. Right after Crozen gave me some answers, I decided to avoid Shone as much as possible, atleast for his own safety. You can't blame me for acting like this. The moment Crozen told me about the 'star energy thing', I made up my mind. I won't allow Shone to touch me whatever happens. It was clear to me that if I let Shone touch me, I might consume his energy or worse, I might kill him.

Pinaghalong guilt at tampo ang nararamdaman ko ngayon. Guilt dahil sa ako ang may kasalanan kung bakit nanghina si Shone pagkatapos niya akong saluhin sa gym nang tamaan ako ng bola. Tampo dahil sa hindi man lang sinabi sa akin ni Shone ang consequence ng ginawa niyang iyon. Karapatan ko ring malaman, di ba?

I sighed absent mindedly.

"So what do you think?" asked Trace, who was sitting across me with an open book resting on the table in front of him.

The smile on his face disappeared and a frown emerged on his forehead.

"Sassy? May problema ba?" he asked, sounding worried.

I blinked away my thoughts about Shone and shook my head. "A-ah. Wa-wala. Wala." I answered, waving both of my hands. "I just.. spaced out a bit." I admitted, finally resting my hands on the table. "Saan na nga ulit tayo?" tanong ko.

He smiled to me. "As I was saying, how about we pick a movie that has a significance in real life scenarios? I mean, nasa rubrics ni Ma'am na dapat relatable yung story sa isang simpleng tao." he explained, doing some hand gestures making him look handsomely serious.

Right. If you'll ask me how on earth this happened, I mean, this-partner-kami-ni-Trace-sa-English-Project-pero-hindi-ko-alam-kung-bakit thing, ang sagot ko eh isang makabagbag damdaming kibit balikat. Aaminin ko, pabor sa akin ito pero hindi pa rin kasi ako makapaniwala na mangyayari ito sa tanang buhay ko. Okay, tawagin niyo na akong OA pero dream come true ito para sa akin.

Since our teacher gave us two weeks to work on this project, Trace and I decided to start planning about what movie to pick. Libre kasi siya ngayong araw (Miyerkules na kasi at wala silang basketball practice after class) so pinili na naming pumunta ng library pagkatapos kaming i'dismiss ni Ma'am kanina. Nia, together with her partner Meg, told me they'll go to Meg's house to do the planning thing dahil malapit lang naman iyon sa bahay nila. We parted ways after class that's why si Trace ang kasama ko.

If you'll ask me why Shone was out of the picture, I know the answer. Siya ang sumusundo kay Motchi sa Pre-school Department simula pa nung Lunes dahil na rin sa  nagsimula na siya sa pag'tututor sa aking kapatid.

Mom made the arrangements which was really okay to me dahil as much as possible ayoko munang makasama si Shone after what I found out. Nagkakaharap lang kami during breakfast at dinner, pagkatapos nun aakyat na ako sa kwarto ko at magbi'busy'busy'han. I am aware that Shone's aware of my sudden shift of behaviour but he's giving me enough space naman. Thankful nga ako at hindi niya pa ako kinokumpronta hanggang ngayon.

I heard a soft 'tud' which drawn me back to reality. My eyes automatically drifted to the wooden shelf at the right part of the room and searched if someone was there.

I frowned. "Narinig mo ba yon?" tanong ko kay Trace.

He frowned back. "Ha? Narinig ang alin?" he asked, looking side ways.

Nilibot ko ang paningin ko sa kabuuan ng library ng school. Kakaunti na lang ang tao rito dahil late na rin. The tables and chairs were almost empty at magsisimula ng magligpit ng gamit ang librarian namin.

Trace followed my gaze but immediately look back at me.

"I guess it's time to go home." he said, closing the book in front of him. "Gumagabi na rin." dagdag niya.
