Chapter 18: Friendly Match

After that night when Shone and I had an argument, we've been under this awkward situation for three consecutive days now. We just kept ourselves busy with our own businesses and at first it was fine with me but I'm starting to get anxious now.

Here is the recap of some of the not-so-good events these past few days:

Thursday, Shone was busy with their basketball practice so I was the one who fetched Motchi during dismissal.

Friday, Shone was obviously neglecting me inside the school or even at home.

Today which is Saturday; Shone was gone when I woke up this morning. (Mom said he left early but didn't say where he's going.)

So, yeah. To cut the story short, Shone stayed distant and I thought mas okay iyon but then today, bigla ko siyang namiss. It's as if I lost something valuable, something important and now all I want is to get it back.

Napabuntong hininga ako kasabay ng pagpatong ko ng aking ulo sa aking mga braso na nasa mesa. Habang nakaupo, I closed my eyes and tried to think clearly.

I've been contemplating about apologizing to Shone dahil sa alam kong may nasabi akong nakasakit sa kanya. Hindi naman siya iiwas ng ganun kung wala namang dahilan, di ba? I shouldn't have said those things to him at hindi sapat na dahilan ang pagtatago niya ng sekreto sa akin para magalit ako ng husto. Kahit pa my kasalanan siya, I should've at least gave him the chance to explain but I didn't, and  I'm starting to regret it. Ugh. Me and my stupid mouth.

"Ano bang nangyayari sayo? Ilang araw ka nang ganyan ah? May problema ba?" Nia, who was sitting beside me, started poking my shoulder.

I grunted. "I'm just tired, Nia." I answered, prying her hand away. Umayos ako ng upo at inalis ang ilang strands ng aking buhok na dumikit sa pisngi ko.

I slouched on my seat and glanced at her. She was just staring back at me.

"Are you sick? Simula nung Wednesday eh lagi ka na lang matamlay. What's up?" nag'aalalang tanong niya while finishing off her ice cream.

Katatapos lang ng trabaho namin sa Happy Hours at nakapag'close na kami. Uncle Phil asked us to stay for awhile because he said he'll treat us with a bowl of vanilla and chocolate ice cream. And being true to his words, nandito pa rin kami sa shop at kumakain ng ice cream.

We were occupying the table nearest to the counter habang hinihintay sina Uncle Phil at Ate Phoebe na nasa opisina pa sa ikalawang palapag ng shop. Pay day kasi ngayon at sabi nila may sasabihin silang importante kaya we can't leave early.

I picked the spoon in my bowl and just stirred the melting chocolate ice cream on it.

"I'm just bothered about certain people." I said, staring blankly to the bowl in front of me.

Hindi ko pa nasasabi sa kanya ang tungkol kina Shone dahil nahihirapan ako. I'm not sure what will be Nia's reaction kapag sinabi ko sa kanya. Siguro, mawiwirduhan siya sa akin at pagsisisihan niyang ako ang naging bestfriend niya. But on a serious note, I'm not yet ready to confide with her dahil alam kong hindi rin siya handang malaman ang tungkol sa pagiging bituin ng ilan sa mga nakakasalamuha namin ngayon.

She inched closer as a frown emerged on her forehead.

"Certain people? Brenna's on the list, isn't she?" tanong niya.

Ako naman ang napakunot noo dahil sa tanong niya.

"Si Brenna?" I asked as I sat straight. "Bakit mo naman naisip na kasama siya sa mga taong bumabagabag sa akin?" nagtatakang tanong ko.
