Chapter 36: Doubts

Morning came and I woke up earlier than my usual time of waking up. I looked to my side and found Nia still in deep sleep, her back was on me. I cautiously got out of bed and turned on the lamp on her bedside table. It shed light to the dim room, making it a little easy for me to do my new plan for today. I checked the time on the small clock just beside the lamp and it ticked four thirty-two in the morning.

Very covenient.

I fixed my hair and tied it in a messy bun by my ponytail as I tiptoed towards Nia's bathroom. Once inside, I gathered all of my clothes and all of my weapons a.k.a my silver daggers. I don't want Nia to see my stuffs lying around her bathroom because she'll surely freak out. When I'm done picking my clothes and weapons to where I hid them last night, I went out of the bathroom and looked for an extra bag where I can put them.

I rummaged on Nia's closet drawers and found a black back pack in it. I picked it up and I unzipped it open. I put all of my clothes plus my boots in it as well as the flashlight that I got on Nia's bedside drawer.  I put my jacket on and checked my phone for any messages and found a few messages from some of my classmates but non from my Mom. I decided to send her a message hoping she'll get the chance to reply.

Hi, Mom. Please call me as soon as you see this.

I tapped the send button and put my phone in my pocket afterwards. I walked back on Nia's study table and picked a pen and a blank sheet of paper resting on it. I wrote a short note to let her know that I am okay and that I'll see her in school.

I left the note on her bedside table and picked the bag from the floor. I wore one of Nia's spare slippers and walked towards her window where we snuck in last night. I pulled the same blue curtains away and looked up the still dark sky. There were a few stars that were still visible even if it was dawn already. The surroundings outside was still dark but it didn't stop me from opening Nia's glass window and climbing out of it.

The morning wind sent shivers on my body but thank god I brought my jacket with me. After successfully getting out of Nia's room with the back pack with me, I put the curtains back on its place and pulled down the glass window. I breathed out and went on with the plan which was leaving Nia's house before everyone in the house wakes up.

I decided about going back home instead of going to the East Circle this morning. Baka kasi magkasalisi pa kami ni Ms. Andy kung pupunta pa ko sa bahay niya. I also want to check if the Black Stars were still around our house. I know it's way too risky but I really have to do it. First, I need to get ready for school not because it's Friday but because I want to have a word with Ms. Andy about Shone and I'm praying that she's going to be in school today otherwise I have to make a back up plan.

My feet began to move and I headed towards the front gate which was just as tall as I am. I cautiosly climbed up with the bag slung on my shoulder. The gate was not too high so it was pretty easy to jump over it. I made it out of the gate and I began to walk towards the nearest stop. Since Nia's house was just close to town it was easy to get a taxi around their area. I spotted a cab approaching so I lifted my hand just as it's about to pass by me. It stopped in front of me and a middle aged man greeted me 'good morning' the moment I got in the car.

He asked as to where we were headed and I told him the address. I observed the driver's actions and checked if he's one of those Black Stars in disguise. But as the car started to move, he seemed to be normal human being to me. I felt relieved but I keep my senses alert just in case things began to shift.

Through out the thirty minute ride, I've pondered about things. I thought about Nixie and Castel and wonder if they made it out of CradWell safe. I don't want to be a pessimist and think they were in trouble but the same thought kept on coming back in my mind. I've been with them for what felt like months since we went to CradWell and I missed them so much already. The other thing that seemed hard to get off my mind was about Stella. Even though I already had an idea what happened to her, it felt like there's so much more to that than what Clef told me. The last but not the least thing on my head was about my Mom. What happened to her didn't leave my mind since the moment Crozen told me about it. It's a new day and as the hours ticked by I felt anxious and restless.
