Naomi left the room without saying anything, leaving me unclear as to what she was doing and uncomfortable in the room alone with a stranger and a man who hated me. A moment later I heard the announcement over the intercom system, and not long after that Naomi walked in with Christine at her side.

"Christine!" I exclaimed, rushing and hugging her.

She hugged me but paid her attention to the room, "What's going on?"

"Hi, my name is Bale, I'm the doctor who has been working to help Alenia with her wings," Bale said. "It seems that she may have an emotional disconnect due to an additional rune on her wings and not identify as a dragon, which could be causing problems with her ability to develop properly. We need to have an empath, like your friend Michael's father here, confirm that she has that emotional disconnect, and resolve it."

"You want to control her emotions, again?" Christine asked, and I let out a sigh of relief when she did. Finally, someone on my team.

"If we do not resolve what is preventing her wings and development, Alenia will die," Bale said soberly, and I could see that that little bit of information shocked her. Damn.

"She cannot go through another violation of her mind," Christine said slowly. "Is there another option?"

Yes! Team Alenia for the win! "Right now we just want to see if she does have that block," Bale explained diplomatically, clearly happy to have someone logical in the room. "Michael Senior can do that."

"Senior isn't getting anywhere near me," I snapped. "Much less my emotions."

Christine raised her eyebrows, "You would rather Michael?"

"I- no!" I said, my heart racing at the idea. I had done a pretty good job of going back to normal, Michael was now a friend of mine, kind of, but the idea of his knowing my emotions on such a raw and intimate level...

"Could your mate do what we need?" Naomi asked curiously.

"He's not my mate," I immediately corrected, ignoring the sly grin on Christine's face.

"Alenia," Christine said, looking at me and dropping her usual bored mask. She completely ignored the others as she spoke. "I know you're scared, you have every right to be after what Michael did, but I also know you're not selfish." She reached her arms forward and touched my shoulders, "Don't pay attention to them, okay? Just- I'll be right here, and if you want we can get Mike instead, and they'll see if you even have the block."

At that moment I was more than happy that I'd asked for Christine. With her focus entirely on me, I was able to ignore the strangers and enemies around me. I could think and focus on something other than defense.

"I can't ask Michael," I said, "Not after..." After he violated me and forced me into Lore, after he kissed me- no I wasn't thinking of that. I'd forced myself not to think about it, not to think about what he'd felt, not to think about what I had felt.
