"Hey, Mike!" I had gotten up to leave the Lore commons when Hank had walked in, but apparently, he didn't catch the hint.

"Hank," I replied diplomatically, turning to see the scarring mage smiling in front of me.

"Considerin' you're the one who kissed my girl, ya'd think you'd be nicer," Hank said. Though irritated with me the tone of his words didn't match them, and the man seemed perfectly happy. I didn't reply, instead I crossed my arms and looking at him patiently. "No need to get'll defensive. I just wanted ta tell ya that there're no hard feelings."

No hard feelings? There were definitely hard feelings, he'd given my mate- my potential mate a hickey! Jealousy was an emotion like any other, and like any emotion relating to Alenia, I had a tough time keeping it under wraps.

"Okay," I said. "Well, I have to go-"

"Yeah, 'course," Hank said, his smile irritatingly warm. As if he knew what I was going through and felt for me. Fucking dick.

I walked away then, not sure where would be safe. I didn't want to be in Lore, with Hank and Katie and their knowing glances. I didn't want to be in my dorm, Wes could be there and every time I saw him it immediately ticked me off. Class was over for the day and I could go to the library, but Alenia would probably be there and...

What pissed me off the most was that she was right. We couldn't even be friends, how could we ever be more at the rate we were going? One step forwards, 2 steps back. Besides, if she wanted time to sort herself out then who was I to say that she shouldn't have it? So much had changed in the past little while and it wasn't up to me.

Every day she was better, stronger than the last. I couldn't go back to year 11 when we ignored each other.

"Hi Mike!" The mundane voice of Christine broke me from my morose thoughts. "Where are you headed?"

"Uh-"

"Avoiding everyone?" Christine asked, knowing. "You know Alenia wants to have a relationship with you."

"No, she made a pact-"

"-Do you think some silly pact can honestly change how you feel about each other?" She interrupted me again, her tone blank. I didn't reply and she continued. "You can still be there for her and she can still be there for you. Stop focusing so much on titles and claim and just love her."

"I don't think it's-"

"-I know that you're an empath and an expert on emotions and all but I'm a succubus and I'm telling you to stop worrying about stupid shit and love her," Christine said, her voice snappish.

I didn't say anything, standing directly in front of her with my arms crossed in frustration. What was with Alenia and her friends, always being right? Christine didn't say anything else and left, leaving me standing in the hallway with too much on my mind.
