"Absolutely not," Margie said, her arms crossed by the door

"Absolutely not," Margie said, her arms crossed by the door. Christine and I were on the couch asleep, that is until the sound of Margie arguing with someone woke me. "And I won't pass anything along to her either."

"You don't understand," Michael said earnestly and I barely hid a groan. I didn't want to see him or associate with him, in fact, I really wanted to go back to sleep and pretend it was all a bad dream. "I have to-"

"-I do understand, and you don't," Margie snapped. "And while you may think that Alenia is without defense because she's not in a club, you're wrong. I know what you did to her-"

"-Then you know what she did to me," Michael said, desperate.

"I don't care what she did to you," Marie explained.

"You're a celestial gatekeeper of course you-"

"-Not all of us are peace lovers, Michael, some of us fight." Margie said, "I don't give a damn about you or most of the people here, who I do give a damn about is Alenia, and you hurt her."

"I didn't- please, Margie, just-"

"No!" Margie snapped, her volume louder this time. "Do you have any idea what you've done? Controlling her like that? I can think of very few things so violating-"

"-I know," Michael said, sounding really and truly sorry. "I didn't mean-"

"-Perhaps you ought to think of that next time," Margie interrupted, not giving a damn about his apology.

"Margie," I said, slowly getting up from the couch and covers to go to the door. The argument they were having was going nowhere fast, and it was annoying. I needed to confront this, hiding wouldn't make it go away. "It's fine, I've got it."

Margie nodded, opening the door the rest of the way to reveal a wounded Michael. He had bandages on his face and right arm, and I imagined he had them under his shirt as well. He also wore a sling for his right arm, which he used to hold what I imagined was a fresh application for Lore. Margie seemed to trust me and left us alone. I stepped the rest of the way out of our dorm, noticing that the clocks in the hallway said it was nearly midnight, and closed the door behind me.

We stood in silence for a moment before he spoke, moving to hand me the application. "Katie asked me to bring this to you," He said, watching me wearily as he did.

I took it without thanks, not trusting myself to speak. I was happy to have it, excited even because it was my first step towards joining Lore. Five pages had once seemed too much, but now they seemed inconsequential in comparison to joining the best guild.

"Take it away," I said, looking at the papers with stars in my eyes. "Lore has blackmail on me for attacking you, so just take it away."

His eye was still red and bruised, and I could see the burns on him still bright red. It must hurt for him to breathe, and yet feeling that he shook his head no.
