You say you love me, I say you crazy, we're nothing more than friends

I sat next to Grayson, wondering why he had summoned you from your comfortable position in his lap. He was pacing in front of you, confusing you more and more. He finally stopped,

"Y/N, I am so in love with you. I-I-" I cut him off, my hand flying up to my face.

You're not my lover, more like a brother, I've known since we were like 10

"Are-are you crazy ? You love me?! Gray, we've been best friends since we were kids. You're like my brother. I- How, when, why?! Like, I can't even." I got up, walking out of the living room and sitting in the kitchen. He followed me, his eyes pleading for an answer.

Don't mess it up, talking that sh*t, only gonna push me away, that's it

He rambled incoherently, winning the intense battle for my thoughts. I got up, cutting him off again and not caring,

"Gray, you can't. I won't let you. You're repeating yourself, you say you love me. I'm not gonna let myself lose you like this." He stares at me,

"Lose me?! I love  you. If anything, I'm trying to bring you closer." I stomp my foot,

"That's the problem! You can't love me. I am just your best friend. We can be nothing more, nothing less." His eyes glossed over, the red in his cheeks intensifying.

When you say you love me, that makes me crazy, here we go again

It was a month later and Grayson had completely gotten over me. I was happy with my boyfriend and he was happy with his girlfriend. We were on a double date at a restaurant, finishing our food. My boyfriend got up saying he had to go to the bathroom. I smiled, letting go of his hand. Grayson's girlfriend had gotten dropped off by her mom. As her phone went off, she got up,

"My mom is here." Gray nodded, smiling slightly as she kissed his cheek. I looked around for my boyfriend, giving up and leaving with Grayson. He swung an arm around my shoulder. As we passed the brick wall that led to the parking lot, we saw his girlfriend pushed against it by my boyfriend. I showed no emotion, walking away. Grayson cried following me. It was like that every time, him trying to get over me and me already over him. Every girl was the same. It was the first time I had been cheated on and I didn't care. I was tired of the repetitiveness.

Want me to spell it out for you? F-R-I-E-N-D-S

I threw my hands up,

"Grayson! We are just friends. That's it. How many time do I have to tell you?" He looked heartbroken,

"But-but, I love you." I groaned, my voice rising into a scream as 5 regrettable words left my mouth,

"Well, I don't love you!" He gaped, silence filling my bedroom except for the faint echo of my yell. Tears streamed down his face, falling to the floor faster than they were coming from his eyes. I felt furious, only slightly regretting what I said. He started to say something, but I denied his words,

"Why do you keep trying? We are just F-R-I-E-N-D-S. Get that sh*t inside your head!" I felt my body grow warm, the feeling I got when I knew he was hurt. He looked down, realizing that I was serious. I stuck my arm out,

"I just don't want to lose you." He shoved my arm away, walking out of my room with no more than his quiet sobs. I sighed, rubbing my throbbing head.
