===== (Y/N's P.O.V)

I felt weird that day. I just felt off. I had been thinking about my best friend, Ethan, all day. I assumed that it was just a temporary feeling, something that could be fixed if I just spent some time with him. I called him impulsively,

"Hello?"

"Hey Ethan."

"What's wrong Y/N?"

There was noise going on in the background of the call,

"What are you doing Ethan?"

"I'm at James' house. Why? Are you okay?"

"Y-Yeah, I just- never mind."

"Y/N, tell me."

"It won't make sense."

"Do you want me to come over?"

"Are you sure you can? You seem to be having a lot of fun."

"Anything for you."

He hung up the phone. I bit my bottom lip, my mind reeling with things I wanted to do with him. I sat up against my headboard, staring at the wall and thinking. I'd always found Ethan attractive, the feelings were mutual, but aren't you supposed to think your best friends are cute? I guess I'd been thinking for a while because there was knocking on my front door. I got up, pulling the sleeves of my hoodie over my hands. Ethan, Grayson, James, and Emma were all standing there laughing with each other. I smiled, hiding my shock well,

"Hey guys. Come in, come in." I stepped aside. Ethan was the first one in, standing next to me. Grayson, Emma, and James all walked in, already knowing my house like it was their's. I closed the door, sighing. I plastered on a fake smile, hiding my broken feelings,

"You guys wanna watch a movie?" I sat at the end of the couch. Ethan squeezed in between Grayson and I,

"Ooh, what movies do you have?" He went through the stack on the coffee table. I saw a glimpse of one I liked,

"Ooh, Sweeney Todd is a good movie. It's a musical though." I shrugged. Everyone shook their heads. I sighed,

"Just fucking pick one. I'll be back." I got up and stalked up the steps, slamming my bedroom door. I heard talking downstairs, too muffled to be coherent. I sat against the wall facing the door and just watched it. I didn't expect Ethan to bring everyone over, I just wanted him. The door swung open. I jumped up as Ethan walked over the threshold,

"Y/N, what are you doing?" He took a step forward. I ducked around him, closing the door and leaning against it. When I turned, Ethan was hovering over me,

"Y/N, what is wrong with you?" He opened his arms. I looked down, avoiding his gaze,

"I-I just wanted to be alone." My voice shook. Ethan nodded, making a move to leave. I gripped his wrist,

"Alone with you." I stared into his eyes. His face contorted with skepticism,

"What?" He didn't move. I sighed, dropping my head,

"This is why I didn't tell you on the phone. It makes no sense, but I just wanna sit in a silent room with you. Just sit there and be, no talking, no interruptions, just us." I slid my arms around his waist and held him close. He hugged me back, the feeling of his arms around my shoulders stabilizing. It felt right. He let go,

"We should go back downstairs. Everyone must be wondering what happened." He tried to move, but I held tighter,

"Please, don't. Just stay for a second." I wanted to let go, but my body wouldn't let me. Ethan looked at me,

"What is going on with you?" He pulled me off gently, holding me at arms' length. I looked down sadly,

"I-I don't know." I shook him off, walking to my bed and curling into a ball. Tears streamed down my face at odd angles, all eventually ending up on my pillow. The left side of the bed dipped. A hand touched my shoulder,

"Y/N?" I turned to face Ethan. He wiped a stray tear from my face. He said nothing, opening his arms again. I put my arms around his waist again, tangling both my legs around his left leg. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders,

"Can you just talk to me?" He leaned his head on mine. My breathing hitched,

"I-look, it's hard to explain." I curled my legs tighter around his. I felt him bury his nose into my hair,

"Do you trust me?" His voice sent shivers down my spine. I nodded,

"Yes." I looked up at him. His eyes flickered all across my face,

"Then talk to me." He licked his bottom lip, his saliva making it glisten in the low lighting of my room. I took a breath, speaking slowly,

"I've been thinking about you a lot and it's, like, I can't get you out of my head." I bit my lip to keep from crying,

"I didn't want everyone here." I looked away from him,

"Not that I don't like them. I just wanted it to be us." I tipped my head back up. He just looked at me. Neither of us moved. It was serene, tranquil, quiet. I laid my head on his chest and focused on hearing his heart beat. There was no noise from downstairs There was no noise at all. Our soft breaths were the loudest thing at the moment. Ethan held me closer, letting his hand stray from my shoulder. He propped his right leg up, his knee pointed at the ceiling. I closed my eyes, starting to get tired. The door slammed open, the loud bang enough to make me hop away from Ethan and onto the floor. Grayson, James, and Emma all stood at the door. I sighed and laid out on the floor, defeated,

"You could've knocked." I got up off of the floor, trying to fight my tears. Grayson ran a hand through his hair,

"You guys were gone for so long. We all thought you were dead." His eyes glinted. I shook my head,

"No you didn't." I wiped my face, removing the cascading trails of tears across my cheeks. Grayson's face fell, caught in his lie,

"We-" I shook my head again, waving the situation off. They all backed out of the door. Ethan had gotten up,

"Do you want me to leave?" He whispered, the quiet just as comforting as before. My body talked for me, huddling against his side for the third time. He kissed the top of my head,

"Okay."
